Test server log on~

Good day all,

I have just started downloading the test server information. Unfortunatly, there have been many questions arising from the download prosess. Most people are confused by the need to download the normal game information prior to downloading any new files from the test server.

So I will paste "Elrar" comments on this as it took a little digging to find this.

"The reason it is designed to do this is to ensure that your live version syncs up before the test version. You will only receive files from the test patcher that are not currently live, therefore your client may not work if both versions are not up to date "

Additionaly the game saves Test server files with the words "Test" so there is no need to re-instal the game.

Hope this helps you as it helped me.

And yet, because the Test server LaunchPad updates some files that don't appear to be saved in any of the *Test directories, every time I use the Launchpad; first it downloads updated content for the Live game, and then when I click on the TestServer button, (after logging in again) it downloads the data for the TestServer. Not just does a file check -- downloads the data.

Perhaps some modifications could be made to the process of switching between the two game types to ensure that while they are kept up-to-date, no unnecessary downloading is being done/repeated.

These are UI files, they are not maintained in separate versions due to their small size.

Small size it still takes me 2+ hours to redownload then probably due to patch server lag. Thats really unacceptable unless you guy want to significantly boost your bandwidth on your test patch server and frankly live too.

If not people will probably just stop playing on test server if its down alot.

Re: Test server log on~

I also had it want to take 400 hours to download as it was trying to download the whole client until I copied the bin and asset folders into binTest and assetsTest.

Also not all new downloaded files are prepended with Test in their name (confirmed with RA5000_P0001_C0001_Rockspires_mesh.usx which is 13.6MB in the test folder but 12.3MB in the live). Plus you have all new files in the test folders and there are some files in the live folders with test in their names.

I've noticed that even with jus the XML UI files being redownloaded it adds about a minute to the startup time of the live, and 10-20 minutes to test due to how slow the xml_delta files download from test.

Re: Test server log on~

I created my guy tonight then logged off to see how long it took to redo the whole... Log in...Log in prosess.

It took over 10 minutes with DSL after I had just done it 15 minutes prior. Honestly this is a bit tiresome. If you get kicked out to desktop your going to be spending several minutes waiting to download files that you just downloaded a few minutes ago.

Is it possable to have a direct to Test server log on? That way we don't have to download normal stuff then download Test stuff every time we get kicked/logged out to the desktop.

I honestly would rather have an entire TEST directory on my HD with a direct to Test shortcut to avoid this issue.

Thanks for your help.

Copy the vanguard short cut and add /testserver for example "C:\Program Files\Sony\Vanguard\Vanguard.exe" /testserver.

This sends me straight to the test server

I finally got tired of it and copied the VGUIAssets directory and made a batch file that renames the correct directory for which mode I want and launches the launcher in the correct mode. No I don't have to wait anywhere near as long changing from test to live.

Re: Test server log on~

I tried adding /testserver to my normal vanguard.exe short cut but it wouldn't work for some reason. I don't want to have to patch Live every time before Test, that's just ridiculous. Anyone else got any ideas on what to do? Oh, and if you do, could you please make it easy so the computer challenged like me can do it? Thanks!
