Re: Death Mechanic Changes – Feedback Thread
Haven't had a chance to test this yet but to me it seems like a really bad idea. If the "casual" portion of the playerbase is having trouble with the rate of experience gain, or the amount of experience lost when solo or in a PUG then a "rested experience" or vitality style system would do more good, I think.
I would suggest the following changes in favour of balance between playstyles:
The other problem I've seen for more casual players on Gelenia is that people seem to have trouble finding a decent group, this is where I think the real problem lies with the community, and not the game. If you want to take on the harder content, you need a solid group that plays well together, your average PUG is not as effective as a good guild group. Guilds are an important part of VG, this wasn't such a big deal in EQ2 and certainly not in WoW, you can PUG for most of the group content in those games. I find the content in VG to be more interesting and definitely more challenging than other games. A good example of this is TK on Gelenia, currently a very popular spot for a good portion of the population, I see groups doing TK1, 2 and 3 at levels ranging from 20 to 28, I've finished TK1-6 now and I'm at 28, I had finished 5 by the time I was 26, the experience increase meant I leveled through to 28 whilst working on 6. Most PUGs LFM for TK6 are looking for people at 30 or above, with a guild group made up of 26-28s we had no trouble. Currently I think that CRs are working pretty well, if you have a varied mix of classes in a group you can usually stealth or levi to corpses, or have a BM/Necro/Cleric (others I may have forgotten) summon your group, or have a stealther drag stones. This might bring in more short term boosts to subscriptions, it might make some of the vocal whiners happier, but in the long run even the people who don't like CRs will realise that it's an important part of the game. I don't like losing experience, certainly not 10% on a wipe & summon, but that's the reason I make the effort when playing a class, I learn how to deal with situation and not let it happen again.

I say make the game easier and more friendly to the so called "casual" player. Let someone who can only play for a few hours per week feel as though they have accomplished something every week. On a personal level, I feel that the levelling curve that WoW has is pretty good. A little steep on the high end maybe, but from 1-35ish is really nice. Now I know some folks are going to say "Yeah, but you can level from 1-70 in like 4 days man!! That's too freaking easy!!" You can ONLY do that if you either are using a guide to do so, or you already know where all the best quests and such are. For a first timer, like me, the levelling curve is just fine. Well, enough said. Gonna go see if the server is working yet.

Re: Death Mechanic Changes – Feedback Thread
Imagine it. Just for a moment. Here you are, level 50. You think "Hey, I'm maxed out. I don't care about XP debt. Doesn't affect me." Then the first expansion comes out. New cap is now level 60. However, because you have not been careful, you now owe 5 levels in XP debt. Brutal eh?

Re: Death Mechanic Changes – Feedback Thread
I first thought this is an april joke but apparently it is not..
Nobody asked but just for the record. I am completely against the death mechanic changes. There must be another way to increase subscriptions, eg. fix bugs, improve performance, add content... |

Re: Death Mechanic Changes – Feedback Thread
I left EQ2 because of the constant dumbing down and came to Vanguard because it was offering a more challenging experience than the rest of the MMOs trying to replicate WoW's userbase.
Regarding these changes, this is the exact system EQ2 had at launch. Keep doing these "mass appeal" changes and i may as well go back to there, eh. It's time game developers stopped focusing on the expensive graphics and start making genre specific games for real gamers again. That ain't going to happen though is it because us game players want the latest flashy graphics don't we? Dev teams make the most incredible game world they can come up with, so much so that it won't even run properly on today's technology. Then have to resort to ripping the defining guts out of the actual game so that it's no longer genre specific and will "appeal to as many players as possible" just so they can afford to pay for the beast. Keep hammering the nails of mass appeal into that coffin bearing the nameplate "Gaming Industry" guys. It's a crying shame. |

1) They did ask. That's why this thread is here. 2) Read the entire thread. The reasons are listed on page 2 I believe. Nothing to do with increasing subs.
