SO...here we sit with
Ian Conway, (otherwise known as
GM Aughos). He proudly proclaims himself the "the only GM who doesn’t have an Elf," so let's see what kind of responses we get. This
could be very interesting, don't you think?
Q: You and Verityn are two of the newer GMs. Are you adjusting to Sigil's way of life well?
So far, the transition has been painless. The staff here is extremely dedicated to the project and their fellow GMs. I was welcomed in and made part of the team by everyone and I have felt at home since day 1. In a nutshell, I have no complaints. Everyday though I have to remind myself that this isn’t a dream, I have wanted to be a part of
Sigil for quite sometime now and being here is as good as I had hope it would be.
Q: What was the hardest thing about coming into the Pit?
Being the only GM who doesn’t have an Elf maybe? I actually like the environment of the pit. It allows me to be closer to the core team in CS and communicate a lot easier for server issues and questions I may have. Also, as a bonus everyone is in range for paper projectiles. I know eventually the pit will be expanding but for now, I am enjoying the fact that this team has become so close so fast. Eventually they will all understand the Orc way of life.
Q: Do you have a background in gaming CS?
Yeah, I have been a GM for a few years. I started working as a GM for online MUDs as a live event GM. My first break into the world of MMORPGs was for
Artifact Entertainment working on
Horizons : Empires of Istaria. I stayed with them until I ended up coming to Sigil and Vanguard. I appreciate everything I did in the past and the knowledge it gave me, I try to bring what I learned to this team and the community.
Q: How would you classify your fellow GMs?
They are extremely helpful and always fun to be around. There are several different personalities in this group but it all meshes very well. I enjoy coming to work everyday and seeing the friends I work with. This is starting to sound like an academy award acceptance speech, but I would like to thank them for the mentoring they offered me as I learned a completely new style of customer support here. It is exciting to be a part of this department because of how well it is run. They were many applicants here so I feel extremely fortunate to be able to work with this group.
Q: Would you recommend to anyone else trying to break into this line of work?
Don’t just look to be in the industry, look for a project that excites you and drives you to want to be a part of it. When your enthusiasm for a project is evident, you become a much more enticing choice to bring in to a company. Also, don’t discount anything you have done as good experience. Remember that even though it is definitely a fun job to have, it is a lot of work. This makes it even sweeter when a game you are working on becomes a success.
*nods, making notes....VSoH is exciting...*
Q: What is your favorite aspect of being a GM?
Interaction with the players absolutely is number one for me. I love to be on the server talking to players and helping in anyway I can. I am a big fan of Vanguard, so naturally I like to hang out with other fans of Vanguard. The community here is top notch, and the people involved are always fun to talk to. Showing stuff off for demos and events is also among my favorite things to do. I want to show people why I enjoy Vanguard so much. This is all very easy stuff to do when your enthusiasm for a project is as high as mine.
Q: Inquiring minds want to know (especially since Lady D was the last one I talked to): Since Daegarmo has always been an avid PvP'er, does he keep an arsenal around his area and Live RolePlay his petitions?
Ummmmm.. No Comment

/whisper Dae is looking at me as I type…
*winces and pushes her last interview under the other papers quickly*
Q: How would you explain to a non-gamer/believer the atmosphere around Sigil?
The one word I use is excitement. Everyone here is so committed to Vanguard and the excitement level is unlike anywhere else I have seen. It is very common to show someone here something I found in Vanguard and they are in
Awe. Quite simply, we love Vanguard and it shows in everything we do. I hope the players enjoy spending time in Telon as much as I do.
Q: Thank you, Aughos. Any parting shots...er....comments?
Yeah, I would like to add once more that Orcs are better at everything. Other than that, I would like to say get ready for
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, because it is simply the greatest thing I have ever seen.
*makes another note about excitment and orcs...hmmm....*
Thanks, Aughos! It's been a pleasure, believe me. I think I'll slide out the side door here, pick up something to drink from the break room and go find my next interviewee. Appreciate it a lot!
And there ya have it, folks; the only Orc on the CS staff of Sigil. Anyone have any questions?
