Actions and Action Families

Crafting Actions are your crafting abilities. During the crafting process, you use various crafting actions to advance the work, improve the quality of the piece, and counter any complications that arise (see Crafting Mechanics). Actions may use tools or utilities and generally have an action point cost associated with them (you get a fixed number of action points for the recipe and will fail if you run out before the product is finished).

  • Station actions use neither tools nor utilities.
  • Tool actions use tools.
  • Utility actions consume utilities.

Actions are grouped into action families. All the actions in a family perform the same activity on the product (e.g., clean cloth before sewing it); although, they may affect the quality and progress in different ways.

You start off your crafting career with a small arsenal of actions. You will automatically learn more actions as you gain experience crafting and improve your crafting skills. When you gain new actions and action families, the icons on the crafting table will glow.

Skills and Attributes

Your success in using a given actions is affected by the crafting attribute and process skill associated with it. These will be listed at the start of each profession section.

Crafting Stages

Stage 1
Ingredient actions are used to select and consume a component of the recipe. There is no action cost associated with most of them; however, the quality of the selected component may affect the starting quality of the desired item. There is one "family" for each component required; if you are performing a work order, one of the actions will always be for a "Supplied" component.
If a crafter is using a recipe that has multiple versions, such as a Brute's Dagger (from the Tin Dagger recipe) or a Tin Pickaxe (from the Amateur Harvesting Tools recipe), the crafter selects the specific version in stage 1. Some recipes also have special options, such as the Specialized and Harvester versions of the Amateur Harvesting Tools.
Stages 2 and 3
The actual crafting work is done during stages 2 and 3. The materials are prepared, shaped and processed, and finished (as appropriate to the particular item being produced).
Stage 4
Any finishing touches are applied (e.g., a cloth piece might be folded for shipment).

Complications

Complications can occur after any action in stages 2 or 3. Each complication has a remedy action family that can fix it.

Action Families

The action families are presented by basic trade:

Artificer Action Families
Blacksmith Action Families
Outfitter Action Families

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 05:53 PM.
