Mentoring?

what do you guys think the odds are that they will have a mentoring system similar to that of EQ2? or have they already said somethinga bout it and i missed it? if so lemme know where i can find the info. if not, feel free to discuss the pros and cons of it.

Personaly i loved the fact that your friends could lower their level to match yours = D i loved it seems i joined bout a year after release and i found all my old EQ friends. thats deffinatly a pro i think

however on the bad side, they were godly when they were mentoring me, at lvl 26 me and my monkee friend who was the max lvl, could solo lvl 26 elites. which i didnt really ahve a problem with, but for my own selfish reasoning obviosly lol. anyway what did you guys think about it?

Re: Mentoring?

Well, there has been no mention of a mentoring system. However there is the fellowship program.

Re: Mentoring?

whoa thats pretty cool... im kinda confused tho... so if you join a fellowship grp.. wouldent it be kinda easy to leech xp... well.. i guess if they are your friends you wouldent have to worry bout it... but then wouldent that kill your experiance? hmm i guess if your willing. i still wish there was a way to activate it or deactivate it... oh i wonder if you can... the article didnt say. hmm its better than some games where they dont have anything of the sort

Yeah. Here's my take on Fellowship: It's a really good system if you and a few of your closest friends what to stay around the same level; but it's something I can wholly see abused by some people to help power-level a character or just leech exp in general.

Re: Mentoring?

The level requirements on fellowships make them hard to actually abuse from a power leveling standpoint. It does seem it would be easy to leach exps though, but I think that is the point. A group with a large variety in playtime availible can stay together in levels if they all really want to.

Honestly I'm not sure I like the system, but I'm not worried about it being used to level characters more quickly than they should be. I am a bit worried about the people playing the characters being 'leveled' by their friends putting in extra time though. I doubt it would be a common problem but it seems like a way to ensure you get a few top level players that level up missing out on some key experiences they should have had learning about the game and their character though.

Re: Mentoring?

The fellowship works fine (in theory at least ) when you play with people on a fairly regular basis.

If one of the members plays way more then the others, then the others will miss out on content due to outleveling it when they're offline.
The one player who plays way more then the others might find him or herself grinding a lot to be able to level at all since his/her xp comes at a much slower rate then if he would have played solo.

Re: Mentoring?

I'd like to see some sort of mentoring system. I liked how EQ2 did it, although I'm fine with no bonus xp for the person being mentored. It was just a nice way to group with any friends that just started on the game, and earn a little (very very very little) xp along with em.

EQ2's mentoring totally messed up PVP, though. If they consider this in VG, they'll hopefully find a way to make a level 70 that mentors to a level 12 really as powerful as your average level 12.

Re: Mentoring?

No offence meant in this at all, as i used to play on the EQ2 PVP servers, but nothing should be let out of any game because of PVP. I, personally, am not really for the whole mentoring thing. But if it were to be done the PVP servers should have a different setup for it. As i have seen in the past trying to tailor a PVP and PVE enviroment to be balanced for both just never seems to work out.

While I agree with your point, it was (almost) equally silly that someone could mentor down and take their newbie friend through PvE content that would normally have taken a full group to do.
