yes, definitely - I agree with that. I don't think that a level 50 (or 60 & 70 for that matter) should be overpowered when they mentor. Would like to see the person mentoring to 12, actually be a level 12 somehow

Re: Mentoring?

Im not sure Im a fan of the fellowship system. This just screams cheat to me. Say you and a friend each have three accounts, now say that you form a fellowship of 6, and then each just take your mains and start leveling up to 50, now you have 3 toons at 50 in the same amount of time that you had 2. Not only is this incredibly unfair, but its also a recipe for disaster endgame as you may not even have any idea whatsoever how to play your other 2 classes, and come raid time, you could potentially wipe a lot of raids.

I did enjoy the mentoring system in EQ2, as it required all people to be there and play. I guess Im just concerned that this will allow people to take easymode and not really ever learn the dynamics of the game.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way. First, you would likely need 3 accounts each to manage it - I doubt they will let you just leave an invitation while you relog. Second, and I'll try to find the reference here, I don't think that you get full exp when you are offline.

Re: Mentoring?

Understandable Shinto, however im talking about people who may have bought more than one account, where they can just have a friend log in the different accounts.

Bottom line for me is that as long as someone is earning the exp, I don't mind it shared in a controlled manner (e.g. mindful of potential exploits) and such that there's no 'free lunch'.

That said, I realize it's a controversial subject. We'll mess with it in beta and if it's something that just doesn't pan out, we'll pull it (though I have high hopes for it).

A group of friends would form a persistent social construct called a Fellowship. Then, say there were 3 in the Fellowship, but only 2 were logged on, a percentage of the exp earned by the 2 would go to the third such that his level was kept at or near his 2 friends. There's no free lunch, because the people online earning exp end up having to earn the exp for themselves and the offline person.
The way I read this, you still have to earn the exp of 6 characters in your scenario. Who wants to take three times as long to get their first to 50, when they can max one and twink the others?

Re: Mentoring?

makes sense, it looks like it could be a feasible system.

Re: Mentoring?

I really like this idea, so if I had a lvl 40 friend he could lower his level to quest with me?

Yeah, that's how it works (in EQ2).

Re: Mentoring?

I can see how the fellowship system can be used by people leveling characters for money too

They would just form any kinda fellowship and blast the other to the desired level for an X amount of money.
