Yep the Total War series is perhaps one of the best series going. Also Baldurs Gate and Command and Conquer need a mention, as does Grand Theft Auto .

Never liked Grand Theft Auto. Dont understand how it got such a following either. Graphics and gameplay were horrid and the content is pretty tired. Would rather get my dose of violence killing off locust in Gears of War or aliens in Halo 2.

Fantasy: Final Fantasy
Horror: Resident Evil
Platform: Mario bros (loved the NES #3 and first N64)

Pretty much that in series. No FPS series really attracked me ever in the past. Some single game but no series

I think the reason it is so popular is that it is a game you can play with your mates while having a drink (or whatever ) and just have a laugh. I never saw it as a serious game. More the type of game you play to purely have a laugh.

Duke Nukem series, classic platformers. Also anyone like the Max Payne series, 2 of the best games ever made imho. And the bladurs gate series, total war is always good. Would Dawn of war and the expansions be a series?
