Re: Gaming Roots
Well I started playing games on a TRS-80. My first games ever that I can recall were Pyramid a text adventure game loaded via tape drive and Zaxxon loaded via 5.25" floppy. After that I moved onto my dads Tandy 1000SX and played the gold box TSR games which pretty much sealed my doom. During the same time I played intellivision (atari knockoff), nintendo (Zeldas), SNES, Genesis (Phantasy Stars), Sega-CD (Lunars). Once I moved out and got my own PC I played games like Heros of Might & Magic and Civilization but once I experienced multiplayer online gaming in a couple MUDs, single player games died for me. At that point I dove into every RTS game you can name and most of the FPS games to date including Warcraft, Starcraft, Age of Empires, Doom, Quake 1/2 & Marathon.
They all paled in comparison when I got a chance to beta and then play Ultima Online. At release however that game was extremely laggy, buggy and had tons of gankers who took advantage of that lag and bugginess. That pushed me to try out Everquest Beta 3 and I was pretty much hooked. I played EQ from Beta 3 till Nov 2004 when EQ2 released. Played EQ2 six months and migrated with my guild to WoW last May. Im in WoW and will likely stay there till Vanguard releases. During my Everquest time I also played AC, DAoC and SWG briefly just to name a few.

Re: Gaming Roots
I wasn't allowed to have games.
Somehow in my senior year of high school I got a b&w copy of Pool of Radiance for our Macintosh, and the degree to which I spent all my waking hours on it no doubt confirmed my parents belief that they had to keep me away from the stuff. I never got to finish it.So instead I focused all that gaming interest on AD&D. GMed my own world for three years in high school, then played in someone else's game while I was in college. In my Junior year of college I discovered Daggerfall and played it on a friend's computer. Then I got my own computer and it...well, it was a slow downhill after that, though I managed to not let it hurt my schooling. Especialy since the only game that has truly stolen my time/soul from me was EQ, and I was out of college by then. Last edited by Foxeye : 03-16-2006 at 02:23 PM. |

Re: Gaming Roots
I never played a computer game until after I left home aged 18. Then I went to university and met my boyfriend (now fiance), who loves gaming and computers. He introduced me to that whole world, and I think my first game was Master of Orion II, which we played against each other (that's also when I same up with my character name Astraad). After that, I played stuff like the Monkey Island games and then he got me interested in D&D via Baldur's Gate. We played all through that and Baldur's Gate II, multiplayer, controlling half the party each in our final year as undergraduates. I love those games!
Since then, I've played various RPGs: Icewind Dale I and II, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic. Also a few stategy games...uh...a Star Wars one and most recently Civ IV......oh and The Grim Fandango! Hehe, no that's not strategy. But as for MMOGs, my first and only so far is SWG. My fiance started that at least 6 months before me, but later I thought I would join in. It was great for a while - I worked my way up to Master Ranger, Master Creature Handler, and we were part of a small Guild (the NWW), with our own sector in a player town. But then the NGE killed both my professions, and now I find the game gets boring pretty quickly. Plus almost all of the NWW have left. So that leaves me waiting for Vanguard! I heard about it first from a guildmate, and there now are a small bunch of us keeping our eyes on the development, intending to play when it launches. It sounds like there will be several aspects of VG that made SWG enjoyable in the old days, plus a huge amout of other exciting ideas. I can't wait! I'm not really playing much of anything right now, just reading Vanguard sites and supposedly writing my thesis! |

My parents were really great parents...I feel sorta bad that for all their efforts to get me out hiking, learning to play the violin, acting, doing community service, etc...at the end of it all I ended up running back to gaming first chance I could. I can't help it. I love fantasy and RPing and nothing will ever get it out of my system. Though I do still hike when I can. And I really *ought* to get my violin out of its case. Strings'll probably snap on me first time I tune them though. I'm such a slacker. |
