MMo players
First, I don't want to offend anyone, although I am willing to admit some might find this offensive. Apologies in advance.
I've been stuck driving a desk at work recently and have had a huge amount of free time to browse forums. Something has started to bother me. I find a large number of players seem to not want anything new in a game. Endless posts of 'do it like in EQ' or 'where is such and such a class from DAOC'. It seems that whenever something radically or even vaguely different is proposed the roar from the galleries is deafening. Why is that? Do players just want a constantly reskinned amalgam of DaoC and EQ1? It seems that all the games coming along now are just that. Are we, as mmo players, stuck in a rut? Seems like the mmo industry is becoming a Ray Bradbury novel lately, just sort of scares me. Thoughts?

Re: MMo players
I think its not so much that people dont want anything new but more that they want to experience the feel they had when they fell in love with the MMO genre the first time again. If a quality game that was drastically different than EQ or DAoC was released I think people would be hesitant at first but once the word of mouth campaign started, it would explode. I think Vanguard can be that game.

I don't think that it's that they want the same old, same old. I think it's that they don't want what has been done in 2nd generation games. The only referrence they have though is games like EQ1.
