Warrior decisions!
I'm currently awaiting the 30th when i can finally jump into telon. I was in the beta, but went to eb games too late and they were out of preorder boxes
Anyways, I've been trying to decide what class i'm going to play. Right now i have it narrowed down to either a rogue or a warrior, and I'm wondering what you all thought of the vanguard warrior from your experiences in beta? I mostly played a ranger, and I did make a rogue as well which i enjoyed. Thing is, my friend is making a rogue, and I've always played a dpser in the past, and while rogue is probably gonna be a fun class from what i've read and played, and it woudl be cool to be a dual rogue team with my friend, I'm intrigued by the thought of tanking in Vanguard as i've always had a thing for it but never truly done it as a main. And plus a warrior would probably complement a rogue nicely if it were just me and my friend doing some light grinding/questing. So what are your thoughts of the warrior? And how are they compared to other tanks- I know I don't want to play a paladin (I might rp, and I'd rather be a bit more of a badass :P ), but I might want to be a dread knight. However for some reason I'm a bit more drawn to the pure tanking of the warrior. So how is the comparison? Have you found any tanks to be 'preferred' at all by groups? 'Cause I know in other games paladins because of their heals can get chosen over warriors or something like that. I want to be (if I prove myself) to be one of the top choices for main tank on high end raids later on, and not just have to watch paladins or dread knights tank while i give moderate tank dps. And of course I want to be picked for groups! No one likes getting picked last. What are your thoughts? And even though this is a warrior forum and it'll prooobably be bias.....warrior or rogue?! |

I'm lvl 13 so far and liking the Warrior. Its taken a few adjustments from my old EQ1 Warrior but I think I am getting the hang of it. The Warrior is fun so far.
Duo with a Rog? Seams the Pally's heals would come in handy but a Warrior and a Rog would make a good combo if you can grab a healer along the way to play with you a lot of the time. |

Good point for pally heals, but i think i'd rather play a warrior over a pally. I'm glad its fun so far at lvl 13. I'm definitely thinking of more full group situations for the fun factor, since vanguard is largely a group oriented game. Another question to add to my flurry of questions above- does combat get more tactical as you get to the higher levels? Compared to previous games like EQ, is it going to take more actual skill to differentiate as a good tank? I always like it when i can feel i'm actually good at what I do, not just good at mindless button mashing.

button mashing and Warrior definately go hand in hand with each other, been my experience that the difference between a good warrior (and maybe a not so good warrior) is Situational Awareness, whats going on around the warrior. Adds, pullers, command of keyboard functions (such as cycle target key) and good groups, if you play with the same people often you know what they will do and how that should influence your actions. The key to being a good warrior is paying attention and working hard at it. Maybe the most important thing, is having a very good PC so lag doesnt make a good warrior a bad one.

Oh I definitely expect there to be button mashing, but as long as its not mindless. The situational awareness tha tyou mentioned definitely sounds good- brings some thought and tactics into it all, which is all i'm really asking for. I was just reading the thread about the warrior command line, and I do like the sounds of the fact you have to pay attention. I'd rather have that than be able to auto attack, afk, possibly come bakc and taunt once in a while

I don't think a killer PC makes the difference. You just need to know when to turn the eye candy off and do your job =D
And I agree 100% with the situational awareness. EVERYTHING you do is dependent on what is happening in the encounter. Tactics can change instantly when the encounter does. Tanking in this game reminds me alot of old EQ. And that's a Good Thing. |

I've found the warrior to be quite fun in PvE. There are alot of abilities that you can use to accomplish different things depending on he situation and you have to be aware of what's going on. It's almost too much.. but I'd rather have too much than too little.
I've played healers most of my MMO 'career' and wanted something just as involved but with a different style of play. Never been a fan of playing Paladins and I don't like the limited weapon options of the DK, so I tried Warrior. I'm not even gonna comment on PvP since it is still being worked on and will probably be a few months before things get better. Casters have a huge advantage atm. |
