Halflings Get A Racial Taunt
Now, in addition to getting +3 dex, halfling warriors get a racial taunt, which greatly and instantaneously increases the hate of the mob to you, and doubles the hate generated by all of your attacks for the next 30 seconds.
That sounds like a taunt warriors should have as a class skill, not a racial skill. But I was planning on making a halfling warrior anyway, mainly for RP reasons, so Im pretty happy with it. It appears that Sigil really wants to see some halfling warriors at launch and changed the racials to make the race more attractive. |

I was just going to post the same information. Seems kinda odd that halflings would be such a highly rated tank.
Only concern I have is Max HP. Are halfings max HPs much lower than other races? I saw some info on racial statistics on another site, but can't seem to find them now. I'm wondering if halfing warriors will be like the tarutaru paladins in FFXI. Tarutaru paladins tanked fine in XP parties, and held hate better than anyone else because of their MP pool. But, on some of the high end fights, they could get one shotted where paladins of other races could have stood a chance of surviving. Anyone know if the halfing HP is significantly lower, or if we expect to see mobs that could lash out spike damage like that? |

The hit point stat is constitution, which scales from 1/4 hp per point of constitution at low levels to 4 hp per point at higher levels.
The race with the highest constitution cap is the dwarf, who gets +3 per level. The halfling can add a total of 4 con per level, as opposed to the dwarf's 7. But unless they increase the effect of constitution on hps, I dont see the hit point difference between the dwarf and halfling as being that great come end game, given the fact that you can expect huge hp bonuses from plate-armor legendary equipment. The same thing will probably hold true in reverse, with respect to dexterity. The racial stat bonuses will make some differences, but not class defining differences. the same thing holds true with the racial abilities. The halfling taunt is on a 15 minute timer. its not like it can be used in every fight. Its basically an 'o sh*t' ability, which amounts to an extra rescue on a very long timer. Not especially uber IMO. But a helluva lot better than the old run and hide ability. While we are on the subject of stats....Is there any good reason for a warrior to choose INT over WIS for his tactical stat? From what I understand, either stat will give the same tactical advantage, but the one used for the calculation is the highest one of the two. Wisdom also increases the mana (energy) pool. And thats what we need for our taunts. Why would one choose to pump INT over WIS? Am I missing something? Im interested in this question because of the + 1 Wisdom that the halfling receives. If I can use that as my tactical stat rather than INT, then it wont go to waste. Given the extra taunt (rescue) and the extra wisdom (for tactical insight), the halfling may turn out to be the agro specialist, while other racial warriors turn out to be the mitigation specialists, the hit point specialists, or the dps specialists. But in the end, I see these differences as being minor. Your thoughts? |

From a fantasy fiction standpoint, the halfling taunt ability is definately supported. How about Tasslehoff Burrfoot from the Drangonlance series? They were renowned for their ability to taunt. Yeah, I know they were technically "Kender" but they are described pretty much the same as Tolkein's hobbits.

Here is a link to someone that made an excel sheet showing stats and such: http://www.sinvida.net/home/modules....op=getit&lid=4
As with any file you download, always virus check everything. Between the racials and stat cap at 50 minus buffs and gear, I'm tore between Vulmane and Orc. Probably go with Vulmane as it seems they avg out pretty good. And I really like their racial benefit. |
