If beta is any indication, Protective Fighters are the least played "Archetype", so you should not have any troubles finding a group whether you are a warrior, paladin or dread knight.
As for comparision towards Dread Knight and Paladin and what makes a Warrior stand out...the question was asked multiple times on the beta forums but never got a reply. From what I understood from reading the beta forums, the things that differ a warrior from the others are/were supposed to be: 1: Higher DPS (Dual Wielding probably, doubt it'll happen in defensive stance) 2: Highest defense/mitigation bonus? (A bit unsure of this, but I think I saw numbers around War: 15%, Pal: 15%, DK:10% plus 1% per DC) Corrected after edit, we're same as pallies, though Venge stated in another thread that "the warrior can reach the highest mitigation levels of all protective fighters. We have the most abilities to do so" 3: Best aggro generation toolset (AE taunts etc) 4: Commands/Battle shouts Some argue that #4 will just create alot of button mashing. Maybe it will, but I'll tell you that I appreciate a command where I can target that pesky ranger/rogue/sorc/whatever that's grabbing aggro off me and back him off / decrease his aggro....button mashing or not ![]() We are more weapon dependant than the other two classes though since we have no spells to increase our damage output with, but if you dual wield 2 nice weapons, I doubt a DK will outdps you pre DC4ish, if even then. Never grouped with one high level though for reasons stated below, so I might be completely wrong and we get outdps'ed, meh. Time will tell. If things turn out to be unbalanced/unfavorable for warriors I believe it will be corrected eventually. Might take awhile, but gotta have some faith ![]() I never got a warrior up very high, partly because I wanted to save some adventuring until the game was properly released, but maybe some of the older more experienced warriors can fill us in on the higher level game and correct me if I'm wrong somewhere ![]() Lotta rambling there, but the base thing is that I dont think you'll have any problems finding a group as a tank ![]() (Edit: Fixed a number that was off) |

There's no saying what the Warrior is going to be like next month, let alone next year. But that's true of all the classes. And if you have to blindly gamble, the Warrior's as good a pick as any. They usually turn out pretty good in most games. At least until the Bezerker comes out... |

Hi Mighty Meat Shields,
I read a fex posts on US/GB/French forums but I nearly only see people complaining about their warrior, the difficulty to hold aggro, the poor DPS, the lack of "flavour" of the class, ... I will begin VG in a few days and I am still wondering which class I will play. I am hesitating between a Tank and a SHM, quite different will you tell me... When I played DAOC with my Infiltrator, I was dreaming of those killing machines in full plates holding aggro and killing mobs while protecting their comrades with their intercept and taunt skills. In WOW I finally played a Warrior and cried every day because of the useless aspect of a full Defensive Warrior compared to the classical damage dealer types. They could, with a shield equiped, do as well as I did to keep aggro, while being able to solo mobs quite easily. But, my interest in real tank is not dead and I am hesitating now between the 3 protective avatars. - After 2/3 weeks of playing what is your general feeling about warriors? - Does the class fulfill its role and give you some pleasure while playing it? - Is it just a question of spamming a few touches, or is it more complex? - Can you hold your place in a group or are the DK and PAL, more (much more ?) interesting to play in general situations (Pal is the must for undeads). - Is the lack of magical powers of the warriors a handicap or do they compensate it with other skills? Well in fact, is it FUN to play a warrior and do you have your role in a group? See you soon in game. |

Welcome to VG Shakall!
I can only speak for myself when I say this but my general feeling is that I love the warrior class. It's true we have our issues but so do most other classes. No one class is perfect right now and may take some time before everything is hashed out. We need to keep in mind it's still early and changes will be made, hopefully positive ones. I seem to hold my own just fine when compared with other tanks. The warrior is definately complex. Several different attacks that change depending on stances. Finishing moves, defensive moves, and protective saves keep things interesting. The commands I've really just started to use but they add another element to the fight...leading it. We also get a some "self buffs" if you can refer to them as that. There is no sitting back and auto attacking with an occasional taunt if you want to be a good warrior. I also like the fact that we can tank, or if there is a higher lvl tank we can fill a DPS spot suprisingly well and can off tank when needed or use our save on the main tank if things get bad. I would caution that if you intend to play on a PVP server, to make friends and join a guild early. We can PVP ...ok, with support, but alone is a nightmare. With a good group of friends that you group with often you can help out nicely in a PVP battle by using stun to stop 'em and kick/bash to interrupt. I enjoy the class very much, and I hope you do too. TO ARMS BROTHER! |
