You'll always be better off bringing a real dps class instead of raiding with an extra warrior.
i strongly disagree. I will take an offtank with decent dps in my raid anyday over puredps.

Maybe i wont get as much "dps" use out of warrior, but I sure as heck will get 0 use out of a DPS that may have to tank.

I am forced to agree. Proper strategy should account for all circumstances. If I have to choose between a pure DPS that brings nothing else to the raid or a second tank that gets 75% of that DPS and provides me an offtank, healer-sitter, and back up MT... I think I will take the Warrior any day. I would rather kill a mob 10 seconds slower and know we will live, than kill it 10 seconds faster and hope the tank never drops.

actually Healer-sitter is an interesting way to describe a job that not many tanks like doing. Long time ago (i was a cleric in EQ1), we were doing PoTime Phase3, and you know mobs come in waves, and they were not easy for our level of gear back than. I knew 1 Shadow Knight, who wouldn't do shit entire phase. He stood by clerics, and watched. Soon as any mob as much as moved a hair towards clerics he would snap it instantly. Than raid leaders grew warry of him not doing "shit" and forced him to do some "real" tankage. we wiped 7 times in a row due to healers dying. Than clerics pretty much said he either stands there and does whatever the fuck he wants, or we boycott this raid as a class. Things went to normal.

Big respects for Awruan for being that tank on Karana.

I applaud his imagination - this is what being an intelligent tank and not just a meat shield is all about.

When I first started for my guild I was an offtank (Shadow Knight) and I practically had an umbilical with our Clerics. I always made it a point to keep an eye on them. Later in the game I evolved into the guilds pull team leader, but we always made sure we kept a Paladin or Shadow Knight to healer-sit. It was one of our core strategies. Simple really... dead Clerics don't heal.

Not to forgot Monks are being included in the tank list too. The dps monk generate makes em easy to hold aggro in grp situation too

When we saw tanks we are talking about Protective Fighters, which include Inquisitor, Warrior, Paladin, and Dread Knight. Monks are Offensive Fighters with Rogues, Rangers, and Bards.

There is no best MT for raids. All 3/4 of them can do the job equally well. After raid testing, that fact was proven to be true.

I must say that is really awesome to hear. Now if we can just convince the rest of the knuckle heads out there that, and say it with me, "Warriors are NOT the only tanks!" I know it is hard, but I think with a little hard work and a lot of therapy, we will get through this.

Hello all, just popped in here for the first time. The site is pretty nice

Anyways, I'm currently playing a war and plan to after release. I haven't played a tank since a paladin that was my first eq1 char back when that was released. I've really only played casters and dps melee classes since then, but I have gotten tired of trying to find a good tank :P

So, I decided to try out playing a war in vanguard and found that I'm glad I did. It is quite a bit more challenging than most other mmo's and I think I am going to enjoy it thoroughly. I also think that we are going to see a lot of poorly played tanks in the game, but we'll see how that goes. A game where skill and quick thinking matter is just what I wanted anyway!

After reading this post though, I don't know if I should feel comforted with my choice (warrior), in terms of being a MT, or worried. I do know that sigil wants to equally balance the ability to tank between the classes, but as some people have noted, there have been other games where the devs said the same thing, and it didn't work out that way.
