there is undoubtedly a cost for being able to tank. Just depends on how bad you want to handle the problems or just post about them. There are ways of fixing it. I was in a group with 2 BM's a sorc Nec and Cleric last night. one of the BM's occasionally would draw aggro, but withdraw took care of that.
Problem is fixable...but if you are dead set on wearing low end gear you will in turn get low end results im afraid.

Not really. The biggest difference a yellow or orange armor piece gives you is extra mitigation, not stats. For stats there's barely any difference. Armor is for mitigation, which is isn't necessary and is too costly to bother with.
Talk to your healers. They will all tell you the same thing. They can heal you no problem crap gear or no, they usually waste mana healing others or themselves if anything. It's not like armor helps if you get multiple mobs too. With a broken aoe taunt it's not like they stick on us. If there are more mobs then you have CC for then it doesn't matter how many times you withdraw the healer, he's going to get beat on. It's either ride it out or evac. I have a 35+ dps hammer atm. Star iron with striking dust before the nurf. That's all that matters. It would make sense that armor would be worth upgrading, but that isn't the case atm. The only reason I'm doing MoP armor is because I'm a raider. I think it could have some uses down the road. Plus the current system is so utterly broken there's no way it can continue. In time they will scrap it, they have to. I'd rather there were no cash body drops and no repairs then the way it is now, or I'd rather we had an EQ economy with no repairs then the way it is now. What could be worse then not being able to play from high repairs and having to ask guildies for donations? I'm just glad I'm a blacksmith to make money to subsidize my adventuring or I would have rerolled a long time ago. The current system can't continue and it's just a matter of time before it's scrapped. |

Just kind of spitballing here mostly iskiab. Tryin to help you find a solution to the problem. So please don't take offense in any way...just offering suggestions is all.

Being a smither you shouldn't have a problem making your own gear and upkeeping it...the smither I go to charges next to nothing to do gear if you provide the materials and he is over 1pp now. I have to say I have aggro problems as well. Right now It is bad. But most of the time after you add a healer, crowd control, and your tank, there isn't a lot of room for aggro hogs. So as long as you can keep the healers and crowd control at bay you can use withdraw on the major aggro classes such as bards, and rangers and the likes. Im definately not going to tell you I don't have aggro problems because I most definately do. But they seem minimal to the issues you are having. The only time I have trouble and can't keep aggro for the most part is when another tank, be it a war pally or DK in the group is present and thinking they need to be tanking. You said you were using a 35 dps hammer...is that 1h or 2h? Not real sure what you mean by MoP gear either. Hope anything in here offers up a solution...they definately need to fix this aggro thing. And I hope with next patch they do.

MoP gear is quested level 37 gear that's all orange or yellow. It's nice gear. My point was just the repair costs outweigh any benefit you'd receive.
If you're in all yellow or orange armor and jewellery in your high 30s or 40s you're looking at 1.5g a day repairs. Then in cash drops you take in about .5g a day. So upgrading to that point is just something I'm not going to do. I can see what you mean about the extra stats.... but the cost is too high for me. |

Going Con over str and dex will hurt in the end from what I have seen Unless there are some changes to the class. Personally I am Str<Con<Dex, but I am switching to Str<Dex<Con for added Mit/Crit from Dex. I have no problems holding aggro in defensive as long as the ranger/DPS class isn't purposely trying to gain aggro. I have been testing my aggro out alot and found a few things that don't add up. First thing I noticed was when using my Infurating shot a melee class other then ranger can pull aggro with a regular ranged shot which makes no sense. I personally think that adding Whirlwind to offensive/Defensive Instead of just offensive would make a huge difference. There are a few more things but I am to tired to remember atm
