It looks quite interesting how the combat works.
I think this is a place where carrying different types of armor/weapons come in handy. IE Start off with a slow weapon untill you learn how the mobs reacts, then you can switch to your faster weapon and take advantage of it. Sounds neat. |

First of all Thanks for the info,
I love the idea of some kind of RL advancement of hand/finger dexterity and reaction as your gear advances. Maybe when you start you get a crappy shoddy rusty shortsword and its slow and weak, well get some of your timing stuphs down and work on your defenses as well. Then when you have your timing down get a faster weapon and condition yourself to doing things faster and inevitably more efficiently. More dps may not be the War's forte, but defensively if you could master what speed of a weapon / weight of the weapon you can effectively perform all of your def tasks while still reacting and adding dps / rescues / agro++ will make the best tank imo. All this is if I understand the info that is out there atm. Good post/read, T

I think duel weilders with fast paced weapons will have more DPS but suffer on the defense. Give and Take.
I am also curious if they will have any form of static damage reduction mitigation and/or percentage mitigation on armor which will also effect types of weapons. Another thing to consider, if this is supposed to be a better remake of EQ, Damage Shields are somthing you want to keep a eye open for on the enemy. Fast paced weapons will eat the tank alive, where as the person with the slow 2H will not suffer as much damage. It seems to me that they are trying to make the game much more tatical and not just fast paced button mashing. |

I don't know, I use to love the hell out of EQ till it started to get to wacked out. But it had a flavor that I really enjoyed so I am paying it a complitment.
VGs game mechanics could end up being 10 times better for all I know but from what VG has said, they want the EQ Flavor back in its design which is what I liked best. Just bringing it up since they helped make EQ, they might bring back some of EQs combat ideas which can effect how we fight such as DS. |

the way i see it is if you are using a faster weapon, you'll have more chances to counter the enemy's attacks as well as throw in your own.
to take the OP example, when he cut his finisher off to do his defensive move, with a faster weapon he might have had time for both instead. |

Hmmm I hope that the damage of large delay weapons is scaled enough to make up for the inability to react as quickly. Then again we're not sure which delay will offer the optimum amount of control. I could see a large delay weapon being more important in a raid where the right decision cou;d mean that much more. Interesting system and one I can't wait to try out.

DS's! God, my zerker in D2 got killed in 2 sec so many times because of those... yea though, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few eq type spells in here. Hell, I would almost hope so.
Combat for me seems a bit slow, but thats just my first reaction. I'm sure once I get into it I'll be thankful for the pace. I know eventualy I'll have to pick up a board, but I could definatly see me using a 2H in the start. Espesially if there is some kind of defensive advantage to using one. I've never liked 2h's really, as the dmg to speed ratio of most games for those has never seemed like enough of an advantage over say, duel wield. besides that, with duel wielding you get to customize more, and mix/match stats and such with different combo's. Here's hoping the dmg to spd ratio is enough to make it worthwhile.

Interesting that you are able to react to a certain ability a mob uses. In every other game i have played the chat log doesnt reflect that a mob is going to be using a certain melee attack, it is just instant. Or is it animation based, can tell its using "devour" based on an animation? Anyone, got any idea?
