Alignment Question

Something I have pondered and long wanted in a game is to have the effects of what you do, truely effect who you are. does anyone know if alignment can be effected or will be effected in the world as you adventure through it. Take Raistlin, a well known mage. He shifts from the robes of neutrality to the dark robes due to his actions through out his life.

Just figured I would toss this out there as I have not really heard alot about alignments and how they effect the day to day events in the world.

Generally alignment in MMO's has been handled by a faction type system which I do seem to recall the devs saying will be present in Vanguard. I would imagine that faction and the diplomacy sphere will allow for further types of alignment type tasks that people can perform to suit their purposes.

I wonder if there will be "too many" factions or alignments. With the diplomacy sphere and I'm sure some type of city faction for each city and or race... could this make it be too many to have to keep track of? I know theres at least 20 or more in EQ2 and until some of the more recent patches, it was impossible to keep track of this and its still quite difficult to know who each faction represents (although I think there is a pop up if you mouse over a faction on the list)
Like I said before.. i wonder if this new system will make too many diffferent factions/alignments. Discuss

Very possible that it could get pretty confusing. Perhaps instead of some text popping up or being displayed above an NPC, they could show what faction they are on via a crest or armband or something of that nature. Couple that with a nice faction tab on your PC sheet like WoW does and it shouldnt be too difficult to keep track of even a ton of different factions.

Not all of us have that option at this point. I do hope that there is some sort of graphical representation that will help me keep track of everything. (i am lazy)

I wish politicians in RL had to wear armbands to show thier true alignment.
