faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
after listening to the various channels and trying to weed through the information/misinformation/and sometimes oh-so funny replies I'm hoping someone can give me some "hard" information on being non-kos with factions in general, the numbers..which I've heard range from -6000 to 350,
and are there further restriction on low-faction for trade/quests ect? and lastly, what are the odds of a city (main city) having trainers for classes which are not racial to the race? eg. a monk trainer in the elf city or a necromancer trainer in the dwarf city? |

Re: faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
This has been changing recently and I am not sure of the current exact numbers.
You have two ratings for each faction: dynamic and full. Dynamic is the amount your have earned; full is the total faction rating including your starting rating). So when people talk about -6000, they are refering to the full rating and that is the cutoff rating between the hate you and they hate you enough to attack. When people refer to 350, they are referring to the amount of dynamic faction you must earn to overcome your initial rating and thus rise above the KOS boundary (if the -6000 was correct, then your initial rating would have been -6350 in order to need 350 to become non-KOS).

Re: faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
type /showfaction.
In a related question, I just want to make sure I'm understanding it correctly. My Varanjar Ranger has a Bordinar's Cleft faction of -8194 currently. This means I will have to raise it by basically 2200 to not be killed on sight? |

Re: faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
I don't think any of them are that bad (probably 200), which would make the KOS level -8000 (I hope).

Re: faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
Why would the dwarves hate the barbarians? What in the world are you doing to get on their bad side? Also what does faction get me? My character on Florindyl has 300 some faction with Halgarad, but I don't know what it's *for*, really.

Re: faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
Quote:
Faction is a measure of how much they like you. Getting certain quests and other interactions may well depend on your faction rating related to the faction(s) of the NPC you are talking to. For instance, you need 100 continental and city artisan factions to get the first level continental style quest when visiting overseas (this opens up their recipes). I am not sure whether high faction with everyone is an unmixed blessing (there could be some enemy of my enemy is my friend logic running around as well)???? So the short answer is that the more people that like you, the more game content will be open to you.

Re: faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
Just to clear up the mass confusion
The CURRENT (<-- Important because the keep changing it) non-KoS for MOST races is 251. I have heard some other races have to get a higher number. More than likely, it is 351. When people are spouting out the full rating, they're flat out incorrect. As for what 'faction' gives you? I'm not entirely certain, but quests would be the first thing. High crafting faction with a city opens their recipes (unconfirmed). So I would imagine that although it may not be functional ow, we'll start seeing more and more of faction related items and quests. |

Re: faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
Actually the full rating is the only thing that really matters. The dynamic rating is just more convenient to talk about sometimes.

Re: faction (adv) (non-kos) questions
I have wondered the same thing. Barbarians don't like Dwarves and Dwarves don't like Barbs, but I've not seen anything in the lore for either to explain it.
We're not too different from each other.
