I need help choosing a class.

Rogue, Range or Paladin?

I was an Assassin in EQ2 and I guess it was okay but there wasnt much character depth.

I was a Paladin in WoW and I loved everything about it.

I'm sorry but imo Rangers are bad in every mmo I played but I really like the whole bow and arrow, ranged attacks with a nice dominating mixture of sword play.

Fact is I really want to be a Ranger cause I never was one and in Beta it was fun and easy being a Ranger. But I like Rogues and Paladins also. I am going to join a FFA PvP server.. what class do you think would play out the best? What are the highs and lows of each character? Thank you.

Re: I need help choosing a class.

My opinion for you, Is it is all about preference it's going to come down to what YOU want. No class is better then another, Every class will have its own unique spells, And traits and it's how you use them!

I suggest we pro and con it like you said, You LOVED playing a Paladin in World Of Warcraft. Which is hard to really go in depth with because well, This isn't WoW so therefore the Paladin class may be better for you, Or different to a change you might not like. For more info on the Paladin check:

http://www.vanguardspheres.com/wiki/Paladin

Like alot of others, I love the idea of Ranger to, I've always found dashing around with my giant bow jumping off my horse and delivering a steel arrow through someones chest is always a good feeling. Where as you haven't been one before this could be an opportunity to jump on the Ranger wagon or atleast test it out! Ranger info is:

http://www.vanguardspheres.com/wiki/Ranger

And the assassin, Whoo...Guarentee there will be a large quantity of them! They are one of the coolest class ever, Who doesn't love wearing a black hood while stalking your prey? Info is:

http://www.vanguardspheres.com/wiki/Rogue

Knowing me i rambled on and didn't answer anything, Mainly because i think it will come down to what you feel, If you have to, Make all 3 and test them out for the first few levels, It's only the beginning The Only Limits Are Your Own!!!

I would say, test each one for about 15 levels (so that you get to group as well as solo) then make up your mind about which one you're going for.

This may sound strange, but if you liked the Pally in WoW, you should give the Cleric a shot. They're very similar.

Re: I need help choosing a class.

Try them all for a bit and see. You can get a very basic idea about a class by just running through the newbie quests... and it only takes an hour or two.

If that doesn't answer your question, do like some one said earlier and take them up to level 12 - 15 for a real taste.

It really does come down to what you enjoy. Personal taste is pretty much impossible to predict

Re: I need help choosing a class.

My opinion on selecting a class (like others here - NOT on which class TO select) is play a couple to 8-12... 8 is an absolute min level to get a decent mix of started abils. 10 usually gives you the first basic special abils (ex: rez for healers) and 12 usually gives you some extra utils/spells etc.

Of course, if you are thinking to try a shaman - you may want to put in the time to 15 if you didn't hate the earlier levels AND still are unsure. They get pets and forms at 15. But I think by 12 you would know.

We are talking 1-2 days per depending on your playtime but it is probably time well spent and you always have the others for alts (unless you are set on a name and then you must delete them... which MAY mean restarting once again if the one you choose is not the last one...plan ahead)

Whatever class you enjoy is good. I don't discrimiate in my groups, even though I have the stat charts at hand. WoW has tought me that only people who don't know how to have fun for a moment and relax are the ones saying that "At level X, your class Y must have Z stats and AA equipment, and MUST do BB actions or you're out of my group."

Very true. Playing games is all about having fun (and in the case of mmo's, making friends). So if you pick a class because someone tells you it's the best (even though it might be true min/max -wise) you will get very little accompliced
if you don't enjoy yourself (unless you're a chineese gold farmer, but in that case you shouldn't even be playing Vanguard, yet alone read an English fan site). An who gives a flying deep fried shit (wow, did I just make up a new word?, it seems so!) if sorcerers do 5% more damage than rogue if what you like is to cut throats and stab unsuspecting backs?

Re: I need help choosing a class.

Hmm, you like rogues and pallies...interesting combo.

Someone said give clerics a whirl and I have to agree...I played a cleric for a couple levels and it's very like a WoW pally, though you kill quite a bit faster. I have yet to try VG's version of the paladin yet so I can't say how that compares to WoW. VG rogue is VERY similar to WoW's rogue so you'll probably like that.

My suggestion would be try all the light fighters since they are all quite fun IMO and also paladin and cleric for a few levels each.

It's true WoW is full of people who will try to preach that a certain class must be played a certain way, that a certain talent build is the only viable one blah, blah, blah. It's all nonsense IMO. Every class and every build is viable if you know how to play it!
