Grinding vs Quests
I know on opening day I'll be skipping the initial quests at first to let the newbie area thin out a bit. The quests give initial armor, and great copper for that mount at 10. The thing is I know I'll be getting comparable xp grinding, and with a quick run to martok also into harvesting a bit quicker.
What is everyone's thought on grinding vs quests? For example my brother will be a grinder straight through until the group quests come in range. Having played beta already he's seen the content and just wants to advance rapidly. I however am not convinced that this is the most efficient way to do things. Any thoughts? |

Re: Grinding vs Quests
Since I wont be able to play until a week after release I think I won't have a population problem in the starting area. Also I always do the initial quest lines on my first character. Haven't played Beta either so it's gonna be all new to me!

Re: Grinding vs Quests
I prefer to have a happy mix of quests and grinding. I mostly load up on quests from an area and head out to explore in the general area where the quest target mobs/locations are. Any "grinding" I get while completing quests is just additional xp and happily earned.

Re: Grinding vs Quests
I feel the same as Kethra. My usual response is to get every quest I can find right off the bat, then just go exploring. Most of the time I end up completing quests, its quite fun, because then I get to go back and read the quest to find out the lore behind what I just did.

Re: Grinding vs Quests
Avoiding the newbie areas at first sounds attractive, but I guess I'd be concerned that starting would be very difficult. Those initial quests give decent armor and coin for a newbie. I'm not sure grinding would do that.
From a pure xp standpoint, it would probably work... like for a 2nd character who gets some seed coins from a 'big brother/sister'. (Please no flames about twinking!) ![]() |

Re: Grinding vs Quests
This brings up a interesting question.
Do quests give XP?? I noticedi n beta that they gave items and money, but never mentioning XP. But a few times when I finished a quest I got my level. So do they give you a little bit? maybe percentage wise? or maybe I missed it and it did have XP listed and just didnt pay attention well enough. I went back and read through some quests on purpose, still didnt see anything. Me personally, Ive always gotten the best jump by just grinding out the early levels and then going back and doing some quests when needed. I hate doing early quests sometimes. But at times you CAN miss out on some good stuff.

Re: Grinding vs Quests
As someone else said.... *looks* Eyse Gage, I'll be starting a couple of weeks after launch so the biggest bottlenecks will have passed fortunatly, I tend to move in get every quest I can find, go and do the quest based hunting then when I outgrow the area I wrap up the last few quests and move on doing the same cycle. Although grinding has its place I prefer quest focussed hunting as it gives you ideas to head off in. Also because i'm away from home through work I havn't touched Vanguard yet, havn't looked at any of the spoilers just the basic information guides so I havn't got a clue what anything is like, it'll all be completely new to me
