Yes they do and some might argue they give too much. For example, if you do the wood elf whitefawn retreat starter quests you will end up at least level 3 afterwards - and its all done in less than 30 mins barring lag.
Another example is halfings - I spent 2 hours doing all the starter quests around rindol village and was level 6 at the end of it.

I will be doing all the quests upto level 10 at least, the xp rewards are just too good to miss. I will grab a bunch of quests in the same direction and kill/harvest/loot on my way there and back

Re: Grinding vs Quests

I think the trick here is to balance the linear progression of quests with the need to jump ahead to important points like your home city to take up harvesting.

Usually (well in martok anyway) you don't even see the city until around level 8 or so following the standard quest progression. That means all those cool plants etc will have been laying around doing nothing while you saunter by them.

So I've decided to court the grey area like so many here, and quest but with an eye for the other spheres as well.

Ditto.

Quests in beta is by far the fastest way of leveling and getting gear. In fact doing starter quests in two starter towns worked really well!

This is great news, i love quests!.. I hate missing them and generally they give you a needed leg-up.

As for the possability of lag due to the great many people suddenly making characters.. well, Its always good to hang around the starting players, they are often the most hardcore players and you may need to call on their help one day

A little socialising may just be worth a bit of lag.

Re: Grinding vs Quests

i see most everybody says quests is the best way to go, and i have to agree, it took me 25 min to get my Necromancer from start to lvl 5, i thaught that was pretty fast and my paladin is lvl 8 after an hour or 2 of questing, and i did some harvesting stuff. not to mention the coin and armor ^^ i would say questing is a good idea

Re: Grinding vs Quests

I have to agree with most folks here. Questing is the way to go. I get a load of quests and then go out to complete them, harvesting and killing mobs I come across along the way for extra xp. I got up to level 6 in quite good time. I seemed to have slowed down a lot now. I'm taking in the scenery and doing a bit of crafting. I see no point in rushing up in level, well not for me anyway. I seem to spend to much time running around and taking in the whole experience. I might not level very quick, but I enjoy my game so much better by not rushing through it all.

Re: Grinding vs Quests

I'm normally a quester myself. It adds to my immersion that I'm actually out accomplishing something. Don't get me wrong though, if I get a quest finished and see that xp bar at 85% or something, I'm more than happy to kill off a few mobs and see if I can't get that next level.

A lot of questing is grinding anyway - kill this many creatures, get this many items.....nice to have a little xp bonus & money at the end.
