Agro control

As a healer this is a huge issue in most games. Folks are dieing and griefing the inept healer and yet not self managing agro. What do you think about this issue?

Having played a healer in 2 seperate games I can agree that this is indeed an issue. Really in any group setting the blame always goes to the tank or the healer, which is ridiculous. Are there bad healers? Yes. Are there bad tanks? Absolutely. The problem I've always seen though is DPS that goes balls to the wall all out on DPS. DPS is something that needs more management than anything else. The DPS in Vanguard are not going to be like Warriors in WoW who can take hits because they're in plate. Tanks wear heftier armor for a reason.

All in all, I think that what's going to have to happen is that aggro management in Vanguard is going to be really really important and that DPSers who don't manage their aggro need to be slapped and told to stop being so greedy.

And...

... lets hope there are no damage meters mods. Those get people going nuts more than anything else.

Re: Agro control

Im typically a DPS class and there is certainly a need for learning and managing aggro for DPS. After a short period of time I typically can "feel" when Im going to draw aggro, it just becomes second nature. I also usually pace myself to never drop below 50-60% mana so I have the ability to increase my DPS in the event of a bad pull or poorly timed death.

Aye aggro management can be tough at times, as my EQ time as a Bard proved, certain songs could be pretty much untauntable and with their limited hp it could be rough. I'm hopeing the Vanguard Bard has a simalar Song of Highsun (I think it was, aggro reducing song) element you can place in songs to hope us in our group enhancement role

Re: Agro control

I've played several healers. A healer's aggro usually isn't his problem. There's not a lot you can actively do to reduce the aggro you generate before allies start falling. More in a raid I suppose, but groups typically have one healer, or else a main healer and a player of a class that can heal but who really would rather not.

Re: Agro control

If someone is consistently getting aggro, then you can either explain to her/him in greater detail what (s)he can do to avoid it, or boot said person from the group.

There are always people who don't understand the game mechanics, ideally they are shown the path to improvement as that makes for a better game in general.

Re: Agro control

My main in WoW was a priest.

Aggro management is not just a priest problem, its a team effort. If the tanks/warriors in your group aren't doing their job you will certainly die. If the DPS takes aggro from the tank the group will die. It's all about knowing what you are supposed to do and knowing your class.
