I don't play any MMORPGs now, because they're all the same boring grind. I don't understand how games like SecondLife and The Sims can be so popular, yet nobody makes a game like that set in a medieval fantasy world.

True. But most people would consider any time where they are not killing things to be downtime eg travelling, shopping, chatting etc

Medieval is dorky. Fantasy is childish. Roleplaying is for nerds. Combined?
/shudder

That's not my sentiment, but I think it's the popular sentiment. The Sims and Second Life reflect modern life and are not RPGs so they have two less bars for entry. I recall one article about Second Life where the author reflected that despite having the ability to create any kind of avatar imaginable most seemed to create either idealized versions of their real selves or recreate famous characters. Or they made furries. It's a different kind of fantasy, a less rigid escapism.

All right, I have no idea where I'm going. /chokeself

Well no i see where your going with this, I will attempt to put it in english. Most people that play medevil games like the swords and magic and brute power or even the strategy in stealth to take down your enemies. The sims are fun i tried playing it and my wife was hooked on it...however after a few days it gets very boring...why? because its missing war, death, destruction...and just the pure enjoyment of ganking lost players...i dont think a sims version of medevil times would attract too much attention..without alot of action as to balance it out. Sims is ok but imo most people that play mmo's are looking for both battle and convo not one over the other.

Right, but how much cooler would a game like the Sims be if you could go out and hunt animals with sword and spell, and your wife could play the housewife and go shopping around the town market and socialize?

I personally would rather hunt other players down, or fight an army of darkness with other players fighting beside me, you can intergrate your idea in the game allowing a house a wife and all that jaz, the game would be huge and require alot of PC power...at the same time if there isnt anything bigger then just hunting around the forest then eh the game has no potential imo..if you could enlist in the knights be a hero and stuff like that and go out to the army it seems like you can make a game out of it, but i think the game itself would require much more detail then the present companies are willing to make.

Re: HP & Mana Regen

Have always (as a rule)played a Dark Elf Necro and enjoyed my soloing and the primary reason for this was because I could for one. I did, however, join groups on occasion if I'd had the pleasure of observing their style of game play and could count on them not to expend my mana needlessly. Even being a self-called loner I would still chat occasionally with other players to pick-up hints on better use of spells, etc and to insure that I was doing my job as a Necro as well.

I'm pretty sure you don't control individual sims in the Sims. I never played it, I watched my sister play it for a while. Didn't pique my interest. I don't know that adding high-fantasy elements would make it any more appealing. I don't care to watch an AI eGuy mow the lawn while dreaming of being a Rock God or watch his eRoommate making dinner. An ePeasant plowing a field while dreaming about being a eSorcerer who slays eDragons while his eWife roasts a eBoar isn't any more interesting.

Second Life with an imposed high-fantasy motif would only attract a subset of the same group that plays Second Life, perhaps a few more. It's not a game, the absolute freedom is the draw.
