Yes it is speculation although based on many comments by Devs. Perhaps I was unclear.

ALL races and classes will raise perception with use.

Some classes would get a bonus (maybe +5 to perception)

ALL races and classes would have max perception dependent upon intelligence + bonus.

Re: Perception

Really hope they dont make it solely dependant on int for the reasons I mentioned above. Seems like a huge pitfall.

Re: Perception

Its not unusual to have abilities linked to a attribute, like encumberance being linked to strength. In an itemcentric game you will probably get items to raise just about everything. Further a Cap only become a problem if you reach it. Only players who choose to have minimal INT might find it a problem but if you have a Ranger or Rogue in your group why worry?

And it's great for those "non-essential" classes to have another reason why they should be included.

Re: Perception

If warriors have a reason to be intelligent (perception), do casters have a reason to use any other attribute but intelligence and dexterity?

If all character have to be smart, what is left for the normally smart characters (casters)? Do they get to use str for something?

Re: Perception

Interesting question you pose Doddy, I doubt that you will see warriors needing too high of intelligence, but more along the lines of a solid base so that they can increase skill and learn to adapt to different enemies, and fighting styles better than a mindless brute that just swings an axe. Arcane casters needing strength I can see also being limited to just the needs of having enough strength to carry their own bags, to me a arcane caster carries what he needs, food, water, book-o-spells, components for spells, the thought of a caster sporting a six pack I would think he has his priorities in the wrong spot. As for perception yes I can see that being along the lines of stat analysis/weakness analysis a skill tha the player advances slowly. First maybe able to see HP, then mana, then further down the road resistances, and finally skills that the enemy excells in. This is just merely what I would like to see.

Most likely you will want Vitality for regeneration, Constitution for HPs, and Strength to increase the amount of weight you can carry. The weight thing was important in DAoC; as I recall casters who chose one of the "smart but weak" races couldn't even fill an entire backpack with loot before suffering a speed penalty and a hit with a single strength debuff could immobilize them.

Re: Perception

Perception skills would be a nice addition , in the old text base game of dragon realms perception was a must if you didn't want to be pick pocketed. Or not finding enterances and such. could be a skill used in harvesting as wether you might discover a more valuable resource.
