Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
I generally go with class first. As the times I am on line are a bit strange and I don't generally stay in a disfunctional group for long, I spend a lot of time soloing. I tend to always end up being the explorer type and become as obsessed with clearing a map more than completing a quest. So, since I like to be able to go places without ending up being swarmed, I usually go with a ranger or rogue class. Ranger if the game includes some type of tracking feature, rogue if there is detect traps and/or lock picking. I don't think VG has either, so I'm still deciding on class.
Once I have decided on class, I'll generally go with race that best supports that role. But, as someone said earlier, how I look is also important. So I may slight myself a bit in stats if I like the look of another race better.
I prefer RP servers and will usually stay in character.
I am a very methodical player and enjoy the world for its experiences. That is why I dislike groups that put power-leveling above game play. While it usually takes I while, I eventually find like-minded players and form a fairly stable group.
My first love is crafting and this is what I am really looking forward to in VG. In EQ2 I had a crafter in each of the 9 areas and all were 40+. The fun kind of went out of it when everyone could make all their own subcomponents. Having OCD and being anal helps a lot when you are a crafter.
I have played on PVP servers and loved the DAoC battlegrounds until they destroyed the game with the new classes. WoW just had too many griefers in it. If I'm in an area and not paying attention, ok my bad, kill me. But when you just keep hanging around to do it over and over again, I'll find something else to do.
All in all, I am really looking forward to VSoH.
