Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
Let's see, I usually like to play dwarves or more agile elf like characters (I am more thin and agile IRL like an elf, but drink like a dwarf
) I like the gruff but loyal attitude of the dwarves, and their anything for a brother type attitude. As far as class I am leaning toward the DK, not to be evil, but to be a good guy that doesn't always walk the high road. I like the idea of a hero that has no problem bringing to tools of evil, fear and pain, down on his foes. I see Nerual as the sort of guy that would not strike out looking for trouble, but woe be any who cross him or his clan. Obviously this will all be subject to launch, but since the Seraphim is an RP guild, and I am a big PnP player, I built a roleplay persona before the character, hopefully it works out, if not hey I get to craft a whole new person. I think MMOs alot of time need more RP type elements, RP servers so on, really inspires people to build a person, not a collection of stats and weapons that can stomp a hole in anything. Take for example: If possible I see Nerual only wielding hammer type weapons as a matter or preference and maybe some sort of negative accociation with blades (still working on elements of his past), so maybe I will pass up a better sword because of the type of person i am playing, looking beyond the stats to the core of PnP roleplaying, being somebody...

Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
Nice topic
I love playing casters due to their mental strength and I'm always drawn to the more subtle arts of the mind that enchanters could for example perform in EQ1. Blowing up things was never as interesting for me. That's why I will try this class. Depending on this choice, I will have to pick my race and since I have been a Dark Elf in EQ1 and enjoyed roleplaying it a lot, I will stick to it. I cannot say why Enchanters or Psioncist (is it spelled that way? .. kinda embarassing ) seem so charming to me but that's the way it is....

Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
For me every since EQ1 my favorite class has been dwarves. I've played them in EQ2, DDO, NWN, and whatever other fantasy game I've played. My favorite class is rogue, I just love the dps rogues can usually dish out. I like the idea of doing the damage and (hopefully) not receiving it.
I did start a Dwarven Monk in EQ2 and loved the animations and fighting abilities, unfortunately I see that dwarves can't be monks in Vanguard, so I will have to pick another class for my monk, but My dwarven rogue Fooee will definately be my main.

Speaking of Dwarven Rogues, it was shocking to see how few there were in WoW (on Mannoroth at least)... darned Night Elf, Drizzt wannabes. Last edited by froma : 03-22-2006 at 04:17 PM. |

Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
Heh, I was a Night Elf Rogue... And I actually made one because my first character - a Druid named Talliaroon - is (of course) a Night Elf. So, I made my Rogue, Tall, and they look the same and all - he's supposed to be Talliaroon's alter-ego, but I don't think that too many people got it when I tried to roleplay it - I should really have been playing on an RP server.

Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
Or play another MMO, one that would allow roleplaying ; I do think WOW is not the right place for roleplaying, that's my opinion though < Edit > By the way I just read something interesting on heavy fighters, to answer what I say upper in this thread : Quote:

They are trying to make me create an offensive fighter class as a main character. Most of them shall have dual wield, that's for sure. Berserker ? Why not ![]() < / Edit > Last edited by canardvc : 03-28-2006 at 07:09 AM. Reason: Add |

Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
I'm more at ease with light, agile and dual wielding melee classes ; the DK is obviously not light nor agile. I don't know why (like my repugnance for paladin), i have always preferred seing dozens of lines with smaller damage numbers in combat log to one with a big number. Maybe it is time to change my mind ... Cause this DK seems darned tasty |

Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
I would agree that most of the time, selection of a class is more important as it dictates your general play style and race follows behind, thus most people already know roughly what kind of play style they want despite not really knowing the whole detail of the class.
As for race selection, my idea of the orc race is that they are very proud of their physical prowess so I will be playing the orc race and monk class. About orcs being monks, just think of them as bruisers from EQ2. As for events leading to my choice of race, well I have always wanted to play an orc, but I could not in EQ1 or EQ2. Never picked up WoW. |

Re: Role-Playing or Playing a Role?
I generally read about each of the races first, then select what race I think has the most interesting storyline behind it. Which usually includes something along the these lines " they were once a great race, but do to some bad turn of events they are now the outcast of the world, but clawing there whey back to power bit by bit". Then after I select my race and have read my history of them, I choose a class that I will have fun playing, but most of all matches in my opinion to the traits that make that race standout from the others. This also makes it easier for me to come up with back stories for my characters. So to make a long story short, I choose race then class. For VSoH, I will be playing as of right now a Vulmane-Druid. That could change, I know for sure I will be playing a Vulmane but not positive on class.
