Re: CORE players

Well, I figure right now I have diminshed my play time with MMO's a bit since I am working full time (10 hour shifts). However, I am headed back to school this coming fall so I should be good as far as more play time is concerned. And I am hoping that I can do the put it down for a couple of days if needed and then when I pick it up I'll know exactly where I left off. Kinda like a book of a hero unraveling.

Re: CORE players

I personally am happy to hear they are staying the course and not trying to over reach as we have seen other games do. going for a "niche" as vanguard is doing is how you create a game with a long healthy life assuming all other variables are adequately addressed.

The first few months of a game typically separate the hardcorepro from the hardcoreamatures and once that race is done and everyone starts to cap time requirements typically taper off sharply. This obviously may or may not be the case with Vanguard. But if the past is any indication of the future, and often it is, that will be the case here too. With the obvious spurts in required playtime when you gotta go stare down some other guild for a spawn!!! Or one of those super awsome VP key quests come out.

Re: CORE players

Yeah, niche is nice. Quantity > Quality. And so on and so forth.

I'm not too worried about playtime, though. It was only ever a problem for me because I played on an American server - the six hour time discrepancy was/is a huge obstacle. Although I really hope I can progress without spending as much time as I did on WoW - that was just, well, way too much.

Re: CORE players

I definitely cant play the 40+ hours I used to play EQ anymore. But I can still put in a good 20-25 hours and keep things afloat.

Re: CORE players

OMGosh...seems like most of us have lives.....

will be very nice to have a game I can play today and then play a week from now and not look around and see that everyone i was just playing with is not 253 levels higher than me.
In EQ if you missed a day you couldnt group with the guys that were two levels lower than you yesterday

i like casual play because I have a life, a family, two jobs...er three jobs..er four jobs....

Re: CORE players

Hi guys and gals,

I havent paid much attention to forums before - this being my most major investment in reading peoples postings, but i dont really know what a hardcore vs casual player is by the previous postings.

To me a hardcore player is one who plays every day and enjoys their time during the game - be it a casual style or a hardcore gain every inch every minute style.

And a casual player does not play every day and does not care about gaining exp, items, or social interaction.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer in that i play a total of 3 hours a weekday (two before dinner and one after) and about 6 hours in the morning on both weekend days.

Dont really care about other peoples play styles - only in how they interact with mine - whether they are fun to be around is all that matters to me.
I dont really like the ones who act superior or the ones who act disgusting.

Just my point of view, take it as you will.

Re: CORE players

AH that age old debate. If you take being the best in a MMORPG as an important aspect of your being you are probably hardcore. if playing is a pastime then you are core. If you only play cos you are bored then you are casual. I really dont think hours per week are relevent.

Of course this is just another pointless generalisation

^--- What he said! That's how I classify my gamers as well.

Re: CORE players

In my opinion, hardcore is how hard you play during whatever number of hours you have to play, whether it's a couple each day or eight hours every single day and more when needed. I've seen guilds in the past that progressed much farther playing many fewer hours, and I've watched guilds who raided six plus hours every day accomplish little to nothing. Rewards are a product of efficiency and effectiveness, not only the number of hours that someone or a group of someones commits.

I am going to take a wild guess and say that Sigil is developing a game that will provide plenty of content for all varieties of players. If that is their idea behind the CORE description, then my faith in Vanguard is further strenghtened even further.
