in part it depends on the game. in Horizons it was fairly easy to run when things got dangerous. In a dungeon running is sometimes impossible.

Well, if you had a bad group in a dungeon you probably wouldn't get far anyway and the exit would be literally right there.

The way I see it, a group of players is somewhat like a deck of "Magic" cards. You will play differently depending on what is in it. If you have a bunch of DPS but not a whole lot of healing your group would probabally be more focused on killing off your opponents quickly as possible and probabally trying to take turns absorbing the blows. If you have good knowledge of what each class can do and what your current team is capable of you should be able to do just fine on your adventures even if you are slowed down some.
