The Numbers
From looking at the the screen shots I noticed something that is bothering me. I have been seening this alot in all the new games that are coming out. High Numbers! Now this comes in many forms. HP's, Damage, Magic Items, and stats. When I started EQ as a High Elf enchanter, I remimber hitting 100 hp's and thinking WOW! I though it was so cool to hit triple hit points. I only had one item that was magical with + anything to it(RTS and I paided for that). Now in EQ I hear enchanter have over 10kHP's! As a Templer in EQ2 I had 100 hp's before I got off the newbi island, and I had a handful of magic items with stats more than AC. Hell I still had Raw Silk Shoes on my enchanter till level 51, let alone alot of magic items when I left GFay. All I'm saying is in PnP D&D you had 1d4 HP's, it went up to around 20 or so starting EQ, and if mobs are hiting for 30+ a pop by level 4 I'm going to hate to see what you have in V:SoH. I hope it just for beta.

Re: The Numbers
Its been explained that they are bumping the numbers so as to be able to provide more granularity in their effects. Personally I dont have a problem with large numbers for some things but I did think the resistances of EQ2 were a little insane going up into the many thousands. Unfortunately its not just for beta it will be there for the long haul.

Re: The Numbers
I have to agree, the size of the numbers dont bother me since I'll have them turned off or hidden from view anyway.

Re: The Numbers
I like high numbers... somehow makes me feel more powerful when I hit for a 100 points of damage at 3rd level. I also like the fact that by using higher numbers, you can have 50 variants of the same weapon each doing different damage.

Re: The Numbers
Numbers are relevant...Even though low numbers make you feal weaker at first and proud of accomplishing higher numbers through hard work, in reality the same applys for higher numbers. Its all balanced..if you have a higher number of HP the mobs attack work higher number of damage.

Re: The Numbers
People seem to complain about large numbers alot. Much like Pirotess explained above 3 months ago the size of the number generally allows more flexibility with the mathmatics. So long as the numbers work well and keep things balanced the size of the numbers wont matter. If having larger numbers makes it easier for the developers to make this game then let them have them.

Re: The Numbers
Bigger numbers are just a solution so that we don't have to count to the thousanth decimal place. Instead of 14.558 (visible to you as 15) hitpoints, you have 14588. They just hide the decimals when they use lower numbers. So it's really a more accurate view and good for you.
