Fighter? An interesting gameplay?
I played a SHM in EQ1, a Bard and an Assassin in DAOC, and lastly a Warrior in WOW.
In WOW, I was looking for a fun class, able to hold its stand and play a role in a group. But the warrior disappointed me by the lack of interest of the "defensive stance". It had nothing more than the other templates and was weaker in face to mob engagement. I do not know yet what I wil play in Vg, but I planned to choose the Shaman class or the Bard. However, the smell of the plate still pleases me and the fighter way is something I would like to try. I understand that all fighters can face a mob and keep their team mates from its attention using damages, agro skills, special combos. The DK has this "Dark and Sulfurous" attraction, with fears, teleports, ... The Paladin, is more the "Holy Warrior" who can choose to join the light and gets some heals. But what is left to the Warrior? Does he have some specialisation which make him different from the others? Or is he just a class with more HP? Will the job of a tank be interesting and tactical? I a m not looking for the ultimate class, but for a character with some potential and who will be different from a "3 butons spamming class". |

The Warrior's role is tanking and dps - we can be devestating when we need to be. As for tactics and strategy, there are a lot of options for how to go about holding agro, as well as rescues, finishing moves and counter attacks to exploit.
Believe me, there is a lot to do ![]() |

Warriors are battle commanders. We will have full hotbars of various commands to give individuals and whole groups. On top of this, we are the most damaging of all the defensive fighters. Our damage output can sometimes be outright amazing.
We are Konigtiger Panzers. I'll let those of you that are history buffs figure that one out. |

I have to admit that I hope we see a good balance between the tanks in Vanguard. The one thing I hated about the Warrior in WOW is that there was NO other tanking class to even compete with AND they had absolutely amazing DPS is specced for it. I had a buddy that would constantly beat me in DPS during MC and BWL raids. I was a MM Hunter pre-patch and Survival Hunter post-patch with over 500 AGI unbuffed. I would crank out some seriously devastating DPS on raids and usually was in the top 5 on Damage Meters.
Now I had full Giantstalker's and he had full MC gear as well (I forget the warrior names, I want to say it was Might) I also had Rhok and a Core Hound Tooth and Brutality Blade. Needless to say I was loaded for bear, but this cat could come along and smoke me in pure DPS as a warrior and then turn around and tank Ragnaros. Now he was fury specced, and he wasn't the best at tanking compared to other specs, but he COULD pull it off, and no other class can say that, period. I used every trick in the book to try and cap his DPS and we would constantly compete with each other on every raid... it had even become a vendetta at one point. The fact that a warrior COULD reach that kind of DPS while maintaining the slot of supreme tank was what annoyed me to death. To me, it should be one or the other. That long little story leads me to my point for Vanguard, and that is that I sincerely hope that if Warriors are the most damage dealing of the Heavies, then I hope they don't also dominate the tanking side of the spectrum as well.

Well, in The Burning Crusade, Blizzard tried to take a more Vanguard-style approach to tanking by bringing druids and paladins up to par with warriors.
Unfortunately it's all going to hell. Why? Because warriors have no utility outside tanking. If they're protection specced then their dps is going to be extremely poor. If they're dps spec then their tanking ability won't be as good as a druid in bear form, and there are now better dps classes out there (warrior dps has taken a big hit sadly, no more 1000dps). As far as I am aware, Sigil want each tank to be pretty much identical in terms of pure tanking, but their secondary abilities and style of tanking will mean that they will all be in demand for different reasons. This is a great idea and shows that Blizzard really need to either revamp the tanking process completely, or put it back the way it was. |
