The best 3 person group combo?
Hey guys my first time posting here, I have to start off by saying I'm very impressed with this site! There seems to be a very intelligent and mature community here.
I would love to hear some of your opinions on the most efficient / self reliant 3-person group. I have not had time enough to research all class makeups yet and have only been playing since open beta. So far I'm getting the idea Vanguard most closely resembles EQ1 in class builds but to what extent I'm not sure. Obviously there needs to be Tank, Healer, DPS. Right now I'm leaning towards: Paladin - Heavy Tank with heals to lighten the load on Shaman for less down time. Plus we are starting in Thestra, good Vs. Undead Shaman - good healing with buffs, enemy slows, and a snare ability so mobs do run away and bring back their friends. Bard - I have to admit I'm guessing on this one, but I would think the bard would be good dps and have power regen songs, or attack speed songs that would make the group more efficient for less down time. Any and all input would be much apprieciated! |

Bard is a good all rounder, but the ranged and melee dps of the Ranger cannot be understated, it is quite literally obscene. They also get some utility later, run speed buffs, minor heals, non-self targetted damage shield etc, though they'll never been as good in this regard as the bard I'd suspect.

I like the Shaman as well. I play a War, and my girl plays a Shaman, and we can get by with pretty much any DPS class as the third. The Phoenix Shaman(Hyatet) is nice cause they can put a hurtin on stuff as well as big heals. They also have a mana regen that is nice if you have a nuker as the DPS. Shamans direct heals are a good bit more powerful than I had expected. In other games they have relied on wards and HoT spells and not so much direct heals, but in V:SoH they can do it all. Damage shields are pretty cool too, along with the huge fire resist.

The trio I am running with right now is insanely durable and fast at killing. Granted the three of us have been playing MMOs for a decade, and most of that has been together so we know what we are doing and work very well together, but none the less, the classes are just awesome.
Dread Knight(Me) Shaman Ranger We just absolutely shred through the enemies and there is so much utility amongst all of us that we really would only need the other 3 players in the group for shear DPS to kill 4 dot mobs faster.

Another point for ranger, last night my girlfriend managed to pull off a 5 hit chain combo - 2 hit chain that ended in a critical opening a 3 hit chain and the result was staggering. The 2 dot red con level 34 mob we were duoing (at level 30) just dropped like it had been snuffed out.
Rangers are devestating, though if you let them pull they can take some time to draw agro back from. |
