Re: PVPers don't lurk the forums?

You guys have no idea how happy it makes me to find that others are interested in forming a cohesive community. To be honest, I was having second thoughts about the integrity (and mental faculties) of the playerbase on Tharridon.

The obsession with exploiting open PvP "because this is a FFA server" is beyond my comprehension, and at points I'll admit to wishing there were a few restrictions. Unfortunately, I always seem to remind myself that the reason I chose this server is the lack of restrictions placed upon the playerbase... just couldn't bring myself to play on a PvE server, where I'd be locked into one inflexible course of progression (Namely grinding and raiding).

Re: PVPers don't lurk the forums?

I dont post here because...well its kind of irrelevant. Most PvPers I know read and posts in all the other forums concerning the game. The pvp "talking trash" forum is the last thing to go to when in the early days of a mmorpg.

Re: PVPers don't lurk the forums?

Well, I play on Tharridon... I just don't see a real reason to post on a server specific forum. I never have. Normally on a PvP server the guilds stick to posting on their own forums and/or other guild's forums. Unless of course the company provides a forum for the servers, then people go there.

Anyways, I notice that most people do tend to push the "Well I killed you because I could" ability to the limit. The only reason this is prevalent is because there is absolutely no reason not to. In fact, if you don't, you're losing out on the cash. I have always felt that there needs to be some sort of system to discourage it. I don't mean anything harsh, but being able to attain "Outlaw" status or some other function. People who want to make guilds focuses around being "bands of brigands" will still do it and won't have much problem, but your average RPK would have to weigh pros and cons about killing random people. Heck, even just making guards work would be stop a majority of the killings. Right now its just "Might makes right!" that reigns, that's not a great sign.

Re: PVPers don't lurk the forums?

Well, the main reason I just lurk is because whenever I'm on I'm ingame! I certainly understand where all of you are coming from for the pvp crazy people, but I just couldn't stand being stuck on a pve only server. Like Nihilum said, by choosing to go on one of those you lose out on such an enormous aspect of the game.

I can just imagine later in the game when everything has slowed down and is balanced, where there are huge guilds dedicated to policing pvp. Cities that players built from the ground up, something that we could actually call our own. Where there are assassin guilds and mercenaries and opportunities to truly create a realisitic immersive reality where anything is possible. Though it may be somewhat idealistic of me to think that way, if it does happen it would be wonderful. Though I understand people play these games as a way to escape reality, I want the games I play to emulate the flexability and resources life provides you. If I wanted to, I could walk down the street and punch someone in the face, or shoot them. But if I did I would be arrested and sent to jail. Though that is impossible with the mechanics in this game, you could still be 'punished' by the player base.

I have already seen some aspects of this happening, one guild whos members hang around starting areas and hunt griefers. Massive disrespect and almost universal KoS lists for people who gank crafters on a regular basis. If someday this game can expand on that, and more importantly the community that exists within it; definately the most vital aspect of any game and most importantly this one where they've tried to push the limits of what you could call a traditional mmorpg. If they could do all of this, which I personally believe is extremely possible, it would be the best experiance I could imagine.

Re: PVPers don't lurk the forums?

Wooo, Rhiesa, I love everything you just said.

Anyways, the reason my friends and I moved here is because we deemed this a (potentially) rich environment for mercenary work. I believe we will likely experience a drastic increase in piracy (and subsequently, hired security professionals) when sea combat is introduced and continental teleporters are deactivated. I won't even begin to speculate on the ramifications that player-established cities might have, but at the very least I hope that escorting and protecting diplomats will prove to be a lucrative venture. Crafting isn't without its dangers, either, considering that intercontinental trade will likely come around due to the various "styles" of crafting (and we all know that if anyone can hire bodyguards, it'll be those damn crafters).

I think what I'm trying to say is that as things are developing now, this could turn into the most interesting and diverse free-for-all PvP server any MMO has seen yet.

Now now be nice...NOT all PvPers are about trash talk...

Though you do have to admit somtimes watching them go at it is a bit amusing.

Re: PVPers don't lurk the forums?

Actually I think its because there is free communication between enemy on Vangaurd.

I have to say I like this alot!.. the enemy talk and debate with each other ingame, there doesnt seem to be much need to use forums.

On games where you cant communicate with the enemy the Forums are flamed to HELL!.. people get angry and degrade into shouting matches rather than constructive debate..

Well done to Sigil for not puting "languages" in. Not all 'enemy' are actualy enemy, some are very nice are prefer to discuss a fair fight. and give each other the respect due.

of course there are the people that arnt so friendly, but.. well, if these people didnt exist it would probably get very boring!

nahh, forums have always been a big thing, not being able to communicate with enemies on the other hand, is rather new, and pretty stupid... . In the past I ended up with friends that were enemies in previous games, even became guildmates because we were able to talk to each other. Don't just assume cause a few crappy games (eq2, WoW) disallowed communication between factions that allowing us to talk to each other ingame was something new. I can't figure out for the life of me why EQ2 decided to do so many things like WoW when they released their pos PvP system..

I point the blame at the fansites that all wanted to make names for themselves and made server forums. Our community is split up over 10 different sites, all of which have barely any posts on em cause noone knows where to go to be a troll imo.. Right now the most active server forums is VN, which enrages me cause of the ass ugly design of the forums, they're like a throwback to the dawn of the internet, but players are most active there
