Re: Sound cards
I agree with Dark. i'm using a creative labs sound card and it is my happy place. I've never had a problem with them and I've used them for years

Re: Sound cards
it depends on your definition of "older than dirt" if it's a Live! card it might. older than that and I'm not sure - it will depend on if it is better than the onboard.

Re: Sound cards
Until mine died recently, I was using a 6 year old Live! card. Worked beautifully. The biggest advantage of using any sound card is that it takes the stress off of your processor by handling all of the sound.

Re: Sound cards
My "Older than Dirt" Soundblaster PCI 512 would only run in software mode on Vanguard. I bought a Soundblaster Audigy for around $30 and was able to get VG running in hardware mode.

Re: Sound cards
Yeah it's a live, I refer to older than dirt cuase it was my first pc I built in 99 I think it was.
Hard part is locating where I put it if I didn't toss it when I tossed a bunch of old graphics cards and some otehr vintage boards..

Re: Sound cards
Nope, the live! card is gone, either tossed out, or otherwise missing... =(
But I still want to know why I would crash only in discovery, and VGplayers update, and if I disabled the sound card at the hardware manager what correlation that has.
