Proposal: A change to Soulbound

Greetings everyone.

With the changes being tested here concerning death, I read an interesting idea for changing the mechanics of soulbound items which I would like to share here.

How about setting it up where soulbound items don't decay? Gives meaning back to soulbinding items, and essentially removes items from the economy since the player cannot trade them away.

Whaddya think?

Edit: Well, since the mechanic has been removed, I don't feel this changes much. Would you all still support this change?

McTaggard (my beau and someone who only pokes his head on the boards when he really can't avoid it) agrees with you.

This makes soul binding even more valuable (imho) the price to repair can get costly.

The flip side to this is the comment I read on the other thread that "Most people soul bind already and once you get higher in level the cost to soulbind is trivial"

meaning this mechanic will make it harder on the lowbies but not affect the experienced characters

I wonder how accurate both positions are. I've heard both. Hrm. I feel a poll coming on.

Re: Proposal: A change to Soulbound

I voted yes because I am fervent in wanting some system that removes items from the economy.

However, I also believe there may be better ways to achieve this; as a single f'rinstance, having NPC vendors offer a little more for loot might convince people *not* to broker everything they find. Currently there is absolutely no incentive not to put stuff on the broker -- it's a no-brainer that getting even 2s for an item is better than getting 24cp. The only brake to this is the 10-item limit, but even that expands up to 80 with people using mules and alts to sell their stuff.

I think it is a good idea, but then comes the question of what to do with items (such as tools) that decay but can't be soulbound. Not a big deal, but something to take into account.

This is one that has bothered me. Why on Telon would they make the tools decay? Crafter and Diplo clothing? That is something I just don't get.

Leave them Soulbound like most of them are right now. Quest rewards Soulbound, drops not.

Just a proposal from a VG junkie.

You've never had to change a saw blade or replace a hammer because you wore it out? ...never had to buy a new pair of pants?

Things wear out. Personally I'm all for permenent decay

And I agree with the op too ...anything to entice folks into needing our wares
