I really think the problem is just VG's engine. I only have an ATI x800 Pro and 1 gb of ram. But then I know people who have nVidia boards that are much better, like 8600 and 8800s that perform no better than mine. And when I turn down the graphics to get better FPS and hitching... well, it doesn't work. It looks worse, but does not increase my FPS or lessen hitching at all.

No doubt about this, not sure what they did but I figured out in Beta that the best performance setting was Balanced, because it's lowest you can go whilst still using the specialist chips on your graphics card, going lower shunts all those features over to your main cpu which on some systems would be a killer.

But ATI cards definitely run better on it than nVidia ones, and XP runs better than Vista.. sure it's all Sigil's fault but eh.. not much we can do about that.

I have no crashes. Radeon 850X PE runs fine. I'd probably do better if I would turn down the graphics a bit, but I"m a nut case that likes seeing clouds and grass blowing in the wind! Some lag, but no crashes!!

I had almost the exact issues as the OP. I ran an older rid at the beginning of open beta. Good performance at balanced settings. Upgraded mid January, half his RAM, E6600 Intel instead of AMD, and 8800GTS. I ran at maxed settings for about a month. On February 14, there was a patch, from that day forward I have had to run at balanced settings to get 15-25fps. A couple patches ago, where they improved performance at higher settings, I as able to max them out again, until the next patch, now i am back to balanced again. It is frustrating. Nvidia's site says it isn't a driver issue, it is a game issue. But Sigil is saying it is a driver issue. So I don't know, but I am also very annoyed.

But I lost the game, so I won't quit. I just wish I could run at higher settings.
