Re: Ya know, I've just about had it with VG..
Seems your rig beats out mine by a step or two (AMD FX-60 dual core, 2gb Corsair XMS ram, GF 7900 GTX, 2 WD Raptors in RAID-0). I can run it in 1600x1200 with the game in whatever the notch down from highest quality is at framerates of 25-35 easily. Not sure what to tell you.

Re: Ya know, I've just about had it with VG..
i don't know, but i have problems too. my desktop is an AMD 3500+ 64 bit, 2Gb ram, NVidia 7900GTX 512, the AMD is overclocked to 2.8Ghz, it's also directly connected through ethernet to my router and i have the router set up so that anything coming from my desktop's mac is priority. i have lag on the desktop all the time.
my laptop is 1.8Ghz Centrino, 1.25Gb ram, ATi mobility radeon X700 64, and is on wireless internet through the same router. i have no lag issues on it, i run both on highest performance because i'd rather have really fast framerates than pretty graphics, and by a good amount my laptop outperforms my desktop. |

X800XT is a DX9 card -- might be an issue there.

Re: Ya know, I've just about had it with VG..
Aren't nVidia still having issues with the 8k series drivers? Last I heard most things still didn't want to run on those cards under Vista.
I've always ATI cards and never really had any problems, I noticed for a long time in beta that nVidia cards had more issues with Vanguard than ATI ones.. I'll bet thats one of the problem areas. |

Re: Ya know, I've just about had it with VG..
nVidia cards are powerful but tend to have some issue or another -- the 7900GT for instance has major artifacting issues.
Might be the vista drivers issue...

Re: Ya know, I've just about had it with VG..
Well let me post my experience as of late, since I built my new PC.
My new PC is: BFG 8800GTX 768 2 gig (soon to be 4) crucial ballistix Intel e6600 (stock speeds) Asus P5N32-E SLI Dualboot Vista 32 bit/XP 32bit Dell 24" LCD 2x250gig WDs 1x36gig raptor (10krpm) SB XFi sound card So, when i first got everything up and running (drivers etc) in Vista I installed VG and went in to see how beautiful it would be. And it was. 55-70ish FPS solo with all settings maxed, 35-50 in full group grinding, 25-30 in towns depending on size and population, and 20-25 with more than one group in same spot (all particles turned up). The problem here was that the game crashed no less than once per 30ish minutes. When I would chunk, possible crash. When I would go to a big town, hitching, followed by possible crash. It was too much crashing for my taste. So I ended up dual booting to Win XP, got everything set up there, installed VG and tried again. (The vid drivers for xp are different from vista, that might be a big reasoning for the differences). Same FPS in the same situations as above. Difference was that there was no hitching at all, and no crashes. I crash under XP maybe once every 6 or so hours. THIS was what I expected after upgrading my system. (I didn't build this system just for VG mind you, I also play some other intensive games like NWN2, SupComm, Fear, etc). Under Vista, every game outside of VG ran perfect, whereas under XP everyone including VG ran perfect (well, not really perfect, but you know what I mean). Conclusion? I think that vista has a lot to do with why newer PC builds are having issues. I love the look of vista and the tools incorporated therein. I prefer it over XP actually. But when it comes time to play VG, I reboot and go into XP so that I don't go crazy from crashes. Hopefully this helps in some way to the OP's issues. |

Re: Ya know, I've just about had it with VG..
Could be Vista, who knows? I also installed EQ, EQ2, LOTRO on my comp, they all run great at high settings, however EQ2 wants to be in windowed mode for some reason. If I run at fullscreen it eventually freezes and defaults back to windowed.
Far as Vista and 4 gigs of RAM, my understanding is only the 64 bit version will see that much. When I go to my computer's properties it shows 3, not 4 gigs of RAM. I talked to a Dell tech about some other questions when I was first setting the comp up and asked..he said it only showed 3 gigs because Vista uses up one gig....but that doesn't sound right to me |

Quote:
I dont know the dollar conversion, but I bought a 7900GTO for £180... and going from 2 gig to 4 gig would cost about £150.. Actually I still only have 1 gig and my 7900 on XP is fantastic!.. I Get about 20% less performance than you to Agonee.. and I dont get ANY of the crashes ( not since reformating and re-installing everything ) Quote:
In anycase, what you are saying suggests that you have a problem somewhere that is NOT related to VG - you said it yourself, on your old system you can run fine, and your new super-dupa machine you can "hardly move" so why blame VG? Personally I would get your copy of XP from your old machine and re-install it. Unless you purchased an "XP to VISTA-Upgrade" *shudders the thought* in which case you probably need to reformat, install XP and install your upgrade STRAIGHT AWAY! - and then defragment. Then re-install Vanguard, and defragment again ![]() Edit: EQ, EQ2, LOTRO dont even compare graphically to VG, comparing them to VG is not even like comparing apples to oranges... its more like comparing grapes to bananas ^^ Last edited by Snowman : 05-08-2007 at 02:47 PM. |

Re: Ya know, I've just about had it with VG..
It's a machine that had Vista originally installed on it. hehe I know about their "upgrades", just before XP was released I got a machine with Windows ME and installed the XP upgrade when it came out. Pretty crappy, I eventually just bought a full version on XP and installed it.
Overall I really like Vista and it features, especially since I've gotten over the intial learning curve. You're right about VG's graphics versus the other games, although running EQ2 on high settings is a real revelation, it looks gorgeous. I do think that having ultra-realistic graphics like VG is a dteriment though, and in a recent post by Brad he pretty much said that they aimed too high in that department since it really does severely limit their potential subscriber base to hardcore gamers who are constantly upgrading their rigs and spending a fair amount of coin to do so. It is a fantasy game, and to me doesn't need such demanding graphics. I'm not a fan of the look of WoW, but it does show you can have an immersive fantasy world that the average person can run on their comps. At any rate, if Sony does indeed acquire VG, maybe they can accelerate the optimization so it's less of an issue |

Re: Ya know, I've just about had it with VG..
I think alot of performance issues are the 8800. This weekend I was staying with some friends and used there computer to play a bit, I crashed and had graphic issues every 10 minutes it felt like . I was so frustrated that at the end, I just did a follow on my friend and he evac'd me to a safe place to log.
I get home and jump on my computer with a 7900GTO and not a single crash. I very very rarely crash. Everyone I've spoken to with the 8800 has had problems, and not just this game but all games. Maybe not as much in other games but it has it's issues. Also remember windows Vista is a memory hog. If you have all the graphics turned on, you will pay the price in memory used. there is a reason Microsoft is suggesting everyone that will turn on max graphics have 2G's of ram for most every day use. |
