That may still depend on one's situation and playstyle, and certainly preference. Some people are happier knowing they have stuff on them that *cannot* be dropped on death no matter what. Many might not know they have other options... etc.

Re: Soulbinding and you

If you don't lose your mount and items contained in your saddlebags then soulbinding is useless. Someone said soulbinding might be useful at level 45+. If that's the case then it's a waste for 45 levels. So I think Sigil should make you drop items stored in your saddlebags on your corpse when you die. That way, I reckon soulbinding will become more useful. You'll still get some money back when you sell to vendors, just not as much as you would if you didn't soulbind. There has to be consequences for whichever choice you make.

The other solution would be to take out soulbinding altogether.

*nod* They've played around with soulbinding for some time now, in various guises. I'm not sure it's something many/most/all the Vanguard team like - back when it was first implemented in beta I seem to recall it being hailed more as one of the few acceptable compromises to various other issues.

I suspect we may see a few more changes over time. Which doesn't bother me -- I'd much rather a game kept evolving and got better, than becoming complacent and/or stagnant. There's always upheaval when stuff changes, but it's not always for the worst -- though too many changes, or too sweeping a set of changes, can really sink you for a while. *cough* SWG *cough*

Re: Soulbinding and you

The only problem I can see is with quested items such as armor and weapons. They are usually soulbound. So I'm thinking along the lines of making quested stuff non tradeable and take out the option to soulbind i.e. take out soulbinding.

I dont see it financialy viable to bind your gear. I keep a back up set from quest's that arn't great but will get me back to my corpse.

Re: Soulbinding and you

I souldbind the gear that I know I won't bother trying to sell later on. However, my weapons and main pieces of armor (Usually Rare), I definately plan on selling later so I leave them unbound.

The truth is, if I can't sell it, I can't buy it. I have the worlds worst dice in groups. Most groups I am in I hope I have enough to pay the repair bill after.

Soulbinding is just not an option for me.

Yea that was me, but its only speculation on my part. My reasoning is that up until later levels Im probably going to be upgrading my armor quite a bit! and dont want to sell my old armor to the vendor. Maybe once I reach 45+ kind of levels I would rarly, if ever upgrade.. because there wont be much to upgrade to!

I certainly dont have enough space to keep all my old armors and I need the money more

The obvious answer is to give an item a certain advantage, once its binded! In Guildwars for example you "customise" a particular weapon, which gives it 20% more damage.

Im not suggesting VG copies that system, but there does need to be a better reason to sould bind - I really would hate for them to nerf the saddlebags

Re: Soulbinding and you

I agree on the speculation that it might be interesting and/or important to soulbind items at higher levels. But atm I don't see the necessity to do it.

That said, I just want to add that I very much like the idea behind the concept. It's quite similar to "no drop" items from EQ1 (which once picked up cannot be given away or sold). Afaik in PvP those items also offer the advantage that they cannot be looted by a winning oponent.

This sounds much like the proposed 'Bind on Equip' they are suggesting for items which are crafted!

It will soon be the case that a 'bindable' item will be very valuble.. the thought of using a binding crystal on it would be unheard of..

Mark my words Binding-crystal, mark them well... your days are numberd!
