Does a strategy guide exist for Vanguard?
A couple weeks ago I found a listing for a strategy guide on Gamestop's website and when I went to the store a couple days later, the sales clerk had no information in his computer on such a product. When I came home and rechecked their site, the book was no longer listed. Amazon.com is still advertising a strategy guide (published by Prima) for this game but they seem to be the only ones and the viewer comments on their site also question the availability of this item. Is there in fact a strategy guide in the works? Thx in advance!

Re: Does a strategy guide exist for Vanguard?
I had read a post from Sigil on this...can't recall it exactly or even where I saw it.
I think they wanted a guide that was just that, a guide and nothing else. They didn't want quests, detailed maps, that sort of thing. Well, what kinda of guide would it be if all of that was removed? Sigil believes in exploring and people going out and discovering things for themselves. And I think the idea of a guide went against this so the plan was scrapped.

Re: Does a strategy guide exist for Vanguard?
I suspect it would be a bad idea to make a guide on Vanguard at this stage...
There doesnt even seem to be much point in updating the WiKi, things are changing and developing so fast that things change, literally, within weeks! |

Re: Does a strategy guide exist for Vanguard?
In many ways a guide would ruin the playing experience. As said above, the process of discovery helps give you those memorable MMORPG moments that many of us remember from EQ.
Fan websites are (and will continue) to put up quest information etc for those that want information. IMO thats enough. Reading a literal guide would take away a lot of the fun form the game |

Re: Does a strategy guide exist for Vanguard?
Vanguard is so BIG im often stuck making a decision where to go and what to do when I get bored with a certain area. (which happens quickly if you start on Kojan)
okay, so discovery and exploration is very important, but a 'GUIDE' to the local and known area's would very much help me decide where I want to explore. I dont want to stumble into mobs 3 times my level! So I dont think a guide would ruin the game, im certain it would enhance it for new players. But as with spam, if it "ruins the game" for you, then you have the option to turn it off and noone forces you to buy a guide if you feel it would have a negative impact on your gaming. But I do think a Vanguard Guide is definatly needed, even if some aspects may change. |

Re: Does a strategy guide exist for Vanguard?
I spent ages looking for a Vanguard guide only to find that alot of websites listed it but no one actualy sold it, I don't know if it had ever been marketed, However I then got to thinking I remember buying the Prima guide for EQ2 and thinking what a waste of time it was, games like this change so fast there is really little point to a guide that list quest etc, the only value they have in the end is to describe the character races and classes, Maps are always handy though.

I have all of Prima's for EQ. I'm one of those who would be lost without it, but I didn't use it to do any more than remember a particular detail about a city or a spell! I'm one that does better with hard copy in hand that I can write on. Using it for a spoiler, tho? Nope. And, like was mentioned, I think it would detract from VSoH this early. EQ didn't have theirs for a while, if I remember right. I'd need to look at the publish date.
