good points Snow, but it still comes down to the moral choices of players (not to sound like a one trick pony here even in games where money is fairly easy to come by (wow for one) the gold market was incredible on most servers because it is sooo much easier to punch in your credit card than take an hour to farm now and again.

ultimately the actual "crime" doesn't matter to me either, I'm opposed to cheating in any form in any game including solotaire, and that's my thing, which if it isn't someone else's choice, sobeit, but I can choose to make other friends too.

the thing that gets me riled is this "we have to save the world from cigarettes/fat foods..." this new secular morality which has replaced the old religious morality of another age... it's about control, plain and simple, not helping anybody, if they wanted to save lives they'd make better cars adn better doctors, both kill more people than lung cancer and heart disease combined every year buuut it is so much more fun to control people from thier own choices than do what logic dicates and the numbers support...and it's so much easier to hang the gold farmers than the gold buyers (see it wasn't a complete non sequitor

Counter to your rant here, Sigil (and Blizzard) are trying to punish both the sellers and the buyers. It's easy to just blame the gold sellers, but the buyers keep them in business. Cancel both accounts.

there I will concede the point Nil, cancel both accounts and try to get/keep the game as clean as possible for as long as possible.

the explaination to the non-sequitor-micro-rant (NSMR) is that when people get angry about a problem, their first instinct is to attack the most easily identified supplier of the problem (the gold sellers, the illegal aliens, the drug dealers) instead of trying to fix the source of the problem which will probably be more pyrric and a lot less satisfing (the worst of both worlds).

it's like trying to cure diarrhea by putting a cork in your butt...it will cure the problem in the short term, but overall, changing your diet might have been a better solution, cuz sooner or later you're going to be little pieces of confetti floating over the landscape.

Sigil is currently banning both gold farmers & buyers. I'm not sure this will stop 100% the gold farmers from trying, but it will most certainly drive the price of gold up to the point where they are going to have to think twice about whether that time might be better spent farming in another MMO.

i earnt my first gold last weekend! it felt really good. im sure when i earn my first plat it will feel good too.
or i can just buy some gold with real money, then i can buy all the top equip and level really fast! ok now im top level with the best equip. any more games to play this is boring now.

point is i will never buy gold i will never buy equip i will never buy a level 50 char. i want to play this game the way it should be played. i want to achieve level 50 and build my own boat/house. i want to kill the giant dragon called 'big massive dragon that no one can kill!' just to say 'yes this is his claw that i use as a weapon, i killed him' people who buy gold! why dont you just go and play wow/eq2 they are much easier games to level and its real easy to get gold in those games.

whats the point of playing a game which is based on an economy, and then buying the economy with real money? seems dumb to me. like one of those old cheats in games that makes you invulnerable.

From what I have worked out over the years, trying to understand people who buy advancement in a game (gold, equipment, power-leveling services. character purchase), they seem to be more interested in getting to the "end game" and collecting the "best stuff" rather than enjoying the journey and the little successes along the way.
Some of them just want to be part of the elite, some may just want go quickly join RL friends who are high levels.

It isn't even a question of the game, whether it is EQ, EQ2, WoW, or Vanguard, there will always be people who want a short cut to "win" the game because getting to the end zone is all that is important to them. Seen from the perspective of those of us who love the journey, it seems a waste of a good game, seen from their perspective it can be expressed as "I pay my monthly fee, I just want to play the game the way I want to, leave me be".

The other thing about it is, you deal with X% of the population of the world(real and cyber) who have ego's that are so frail, that not being 'better than the jones' is something they can't live with. No judgement implied, it is just how things are, and goldbuying is a fast shortcut....

but it's like major mud, there were these incredible scripts out there, you could run your character for 24/7, so you were using a machine to play a machien and paying for both ends...that makes sense.

and people justify it all, that they don't ahve time to compete... in the end somewhere they forgot we play games to have fun not to make us feel bad.

Yep, agree. A lot of times i find myself counting the number of hours i have to get to level XX. Playing video games is about enjoying a virtual world where we make the rules, not complete competition. Im sure some enjoy it, but people who are fanatical about having the best grear or the highest level are missing the point.
