For example, a sorc who only solos has an opportunity to group. Do you think she'll know how to manage her aggro while maximizing her dps? More than likely one of two things will happen. Either she will constantly pull aggro and make my life as a healer much more difficult, or she will be putting out sub par dps and therefore not contributing to the group as well as she could be. A sorc who had grouped a significant part of their adventuring career would have a better idea of that "aggro threshold" that you can ride where you put out max dps you can without pulling aggro.

This is true for all the classes. The skills you need in a group are not the same you need while solo. Most of the time they are completely at odds with each other. A solo tank doesn't have to worry about keeping aggro off of anyone else, he just has to worry about killing the mobs as quickly as possible. A solo healer doesn't have to be concerned with healing multiple people and maximizing mana efficiency, she just has to mow through the mobs while healing herself.

I'm aware that solo play is a valid and popular (as evidenced by this thread) playstyle. But to say someone is a better player when they solo unless absolutely necessary is just plain wrong :P
I find it strange that you use the male pronoun for tank and the female for healer.

That aside this is why many soloists never group as they don't want to be shunning for not "knowing" their skillz. (the Z is intentional)

Re: I'm a solo player on a MMORG!

Sorcs aren't healers, so technically it's not such a sharp divide you're quoting.

That said, it took me back to the good oooold days of *cough* tabletop gaming conventions (GenCon and the like) and premade chars -- the healer was ALWAYS female, and usually so was the mage.

Yawn

/derail off

There is often some adjustment to be made when grouping, if one plays solo all the time. The converse is also true, though usually not seen by others. Sadly (cynical me) it's always easier for most people to criticise than it is to either shut up or, gods forbid, be helpful if they happen to think someone isn't playing to their full potential (assuming they're right, of course - armchair coaches ftw! ).

Hokey or not, I think I'd group with just about anyone on these boards -- tolerance goes a long way with me, and we've got a lot of that here.

I tried to alternate pronouns. No hidden agenda other than that :P

Most of the people I group with would be happy to have someone in the group who didn't "know their skillz." We're more than happy to help someone out, as long as they are willing to learn. While there definitely are some asshats out there, usually it's pretty easy to quickly tell who those are. Don't let something like that stop you from LFG, there's a lot of fun to be had and plenty of people willing to help
