2 questions from a Vanguard newbie
Hi Everyone!
I bought Vanguard on release day here in the UK and have been playing it as time (and servers!) allow. I have a couple of quick questions that I hope the more experienced VG players will be able to answer..... 1. Up until the release of Vanguard, I have been playing EQ2 (sorry!) and wondered if mobs 'grey out' or stop aggroing you when you reach enough levels above them as in EQ2? 2. I just read the post about the name change to the Infineum server and became quite alarmed! does this mean I will be unable to use the only character I have created thus far? I tried logging on last night, but the servers were down, so I wasn't aware of this problem until reading the post mentioned above. I hope this is not the case, as I have spent a considerable amount of game time building him up to level 10, as I could only be considered as a casual player, due to work commitments. I'm having a blast playing Vanguard, despite the bugs and crashes, it just draws you in :-) Thanks to all in advance, Taros. |

Re: 2 questions from a Vanguard newbie
I am not up on the issue of #2
On #1, in my experience in Beta mobs eventually become very hard to aggro without running on top of them (lvl 35 buffed char in a lvl 10-11 location) Ive found at 17, I have to get close to lvl 6 mobs to aggro them, closer than before. But not sure if it is diff than the 35->6 range - I'd expect so. This system reminds me a big of the aggro range formula in EQ where level diff shrunk or expanded the radius of the mob to you - and how the low lvl guy in the grp always aggroed something ;P and why many dungeons we didn't like bringing anyone below X with us for fear of multiplying aggro.

Re: 2 questions from a Vanguard newbie
Hi Sigurd!
Thanks for the swift reply, I was sort of hoping that would be the case:-) I could see it becoming annoying quite quickly if you kept picking up low level aggro when just passing through an area! Now all I hope is someone can give me some hope about the server issue! Taros |

Re: 2 questions from a Vanguard newbie
Hi!
Thanks for the replies! I can only find reference to the server name change on the most recent page. I'll just have to be patient and wait until I can get online again and keep my fingers crossed! ![]() Thanks again for the help and input, it's nice to see a friendly and helpful community for a change, usually all one sees is a lot of slagging off and name calling, I guess this must be a more mature game and forum Taros. |

Re: 2 questions from a Vanguard newbie
To further elucidate (ok... maybe I just wanted to use 'elucidate' in a sentence...):
I was running through the epic (in length at least!) quest line of Captured Slave (not the name - it's the target) to Kill the Gnoll Commander in VOH with my lvl 12-16 Shaman (yes, it is a long quest line hehe) and I got to a point where the dev hadn't put in the last parts. Then it was patched and we zoomed ahead - I finished the parts 'first on server' (not when it went live tho ) and got to the second to last step, a click before the last kill. There was a slight bug that allowed you to 'complete' the step before doing the work and at 3AM I just clicked all 'continues' and messed it up.Dev was able to patch that next morning to fix it, he was already aware of it I think when I posted the bug. But alas, I could not continue the quest since it 'competed' for me. After all that time... I couldn't wait for release... When we got the chance to buff to lvl X, I made one a shaman 35 ... and speed through the quest line all over again solo. I thought I'd only have a problem if I had a bad spawn and was mobbed in Orcbane because of killing some of the 4dots slowly (lvl 12-13s - I had not clue of speed of killing yet at 35...) but it turned out not only did I not have to worry about that, but that I could walk in between all but the most close together mobs and not aggro.I would sometimes float over one and aggro it though (I was forced to go Phoenix pet by the buff - gotta say WOW tho on the pet DPS compared to other pets) so I COULD aggro, just it was I think ala old EQ (updated, I think OLD OLD EQ rules had u aggro anything anytime ;P normal ranges, but maybe I was just bitter then pre RoK, lol) rules. Great quest - take the time to enjoy the storyline if you are in VOH. They took away an early reward (which imo outshone the last reward for casting classes at least - so prob a good thing...) but it is a rockingly designed line. Do it. Do it.
