Start area advantages/disadvantages.
While waiting for the live release on Tuesday I got to thinking about where I would start and why.Not having tested the beta at any stage I will be starting blind so to say.
Question is one that I suppose all ask at one stage or another. Are there any real advantages or disadvantages to each starting area or does it all not matter? |

Re: Start area advantages/disadvantages.
IMO... it's all personal tastes. PvE there really is no difference, it's all a matter of what race you want to start with. PvP you'll need to take into consideration the teams, as to if you want to be "good" or "bad."
I personally love the starting areas for high elves (Leth Nurae), goblins (Martok) and wood elves/raki (Ca'ial Brael). Someone else might not and have an entirely different view of things.

If you hated Kelethin, you might want to avoid the wood elf/Raki starting area. More platforms to fall off.

Re: Start area advantages/disadvantages.
I very much like the High Elf home of Leth Nurae. It is centrally located in Thestra and has access to many resources. It is also one of the most beautifully crafted cities in the game. Dont forget to take a dive off the waterfall before you reach Level 7 (in case you miss the lake below /ouch!).

Re: Start area advantages/disadvantages.
Bordinar's Cleft is a great starting area because of it's close proximity to the Wall. Nothing like "going to see what that thing is" as a level 5 Dwarf to have a level 40 skeleton come pay you a visit. But it's all worth it, because you get to be a Dwarf.

Re: Start area advantages/disadvantages.
One of the best things about VG in my opinion is the variety in the starting areas. If one area doesn't suite your interests, most likely one of the others will.
Personally I think the best are the Goblin/Orc, Kojani Human/Half-Elf, Halfling, & Wood Elf/Raki. The Goblin/Orc because it drops you right into the madness in a very interesting way to begin a game :P Kojan Human/Half-Elf because it has a great storyline intro. Halfling because it just feels so right. I normally hate cutesy areas but it just really works and I really can't put my finger on why I enjoy it so much. (the Brownies/Redcaps with their voice overs are just awesome) Wood Elf/Raki simply because the area is just breathtaking and becomes even more so when you get to Ca'ial Brael. |
