Hello a couple of gameplay Q's
Heyas,
I got my pre-order downloaded finally, and everything is patched up including the one that came down 10 minutes ago (hint for the obsessive ones) I do have a couple of questions about a few things for those in the know if that's cool.1. Is the whole community like this? I come from pre-cu SWG and a short stay in WoW, and I have to say, either I'm looking in the wrong place, or this game has attracted a less confrontational crowd and altogether more thoughtful crowd (which I'm mighty pleased about). I'm assuming it reflects the game mechanics being more complex. Maybe that's not the case, but it sure sounds like it from the outside with zero game time logged. 2. Is the NDA still active? I assume that's over with since open beta closed. If that is indeed the case.. 3. Do the flying mounts follow the terrain line by hovering over it, or can you actually control the vertical movement and head up into the sky? 4. Is there any news of cross server chat, whether it'll be in at launch, or be in at a later date? And that's about it I think. Looking forward to playing the game and having a good natter here both pre and post launch ![]() Cheers, Mopy |

Re: Hello a couple of gameplay Q's
1. The Vanguard Community is awesome, very many thoughtful and considerate people!
2. The NDA is no more. 3. Flying mounts are free to fly up up and away! It is breathtaking! I hear there are hard and soft caps on your altitude somewhere, but I never flew high enough to find them. 4. Cross server chat has never been mentioned anywhere I found. I would wager that it doesn't exist yet, but may be a future feature. Welcome to Vanguard! |

Re: Hello a couple of gameplay Q's
Hi there, Mopy! Fyrestrom did a mighty fine job already of answering your questions.
I do want to expand on the flying mounts because it's one of my favorite features of Vanguard (well I have a lot of favorites, the list is quite a gargantuan one). You can run along the ground with your flying mount, and using a double jump you can take to the skies. Many of us got to test out the griffons at the end of beta 5 and it was .... well Fyrestrom said... breathtaking. Meh it's late and I'm rambling. I hope you decide to stay around with us here at Vanguard Spheres. Welcome to the Vanguard community and have fun in Telon!

Excellent, thanks for the info and the welcome
I will indeed be sticking around. MMO without a forum doesn't work all that well for me. Gotta say the mounts sound impressive, and I'm very much looking forward to it.Only 12 and a half hours to go. Take care, Mopy |

Re: Hello a couple of gameplay Q's
I expect that this community will be at least as welcoming and supportive as the EQ and EQ2 communities (the EQ2 refugees from WoW have been amazed at the pleasant tone of the EQ2 forums). That said, you are arriving at probably the calmest time we will ever see -- expectation is mounting and we are all ready to enjoy the game.
Once things settle down and the first round of "tuning" occurs things may become a bit less harmonious. However, even then I expect you will find a welcoming and supportive atmosphere prevailing along with the drama.

Re: Hello a couple of gameplay Q's
There were a lot of trolls at the official VG forums who would flame everything under the sun but they don't seem to have followed over to the affiliates. (which is a good thing) These places ...the one's I've visited at least, are much calmer than any official forum I've ever been in.
And this one seems to be the friendliest ![]()

Re: Hello a couple of gameplay Q's
Alot of those people are childish and don't respect games in general. In my opinion if you go to another website just to tear apart a game you don't like for little or no reason you have no respect for games in general or gamers. I may not like a certain game, But i sure wouldn't involve myself in a forum raid to downtalk the community and game itself, Just doesn't make anysense why anyone would want to.

Re: Hello a couple of gameplay Q's
Lots of people just plain lack respect, in real life as much as in gaming. (Now I feel old. Should I add "Uppity youngsters!"?)
I've spotted a few incipient flamefest-drama boards on my tour of the community sites, and made notes to stay well away from them. Some people like their gaming with a hefty side-order of rant, I guess, and more power to them - as long as they don't behave like that here. ![]() And welcome!! Mere hours to go now! |
