Even so, I do not appreciate them setting a low limit like that because I feel like I'm not being given the option to play my way. So what if I don't accomplish things quicker that way? That's my business and no one else's.

If it's just per server then I have no problem, but if it's total then yes I have a big problem.

i think 8 chars is enough - how many chars can anyone play at once?? if you need or want to roll another, just delete a couple. you cant expect any business to give everything away for free. If it is an issue just pay for another account, lots of ppl do that.

OK, just been discussing this with someone who still has the beta client installed over IM, so this is second hand information...

They've patched in changes to character creation, and when you first start the program now you're presented with your list of eight character slots, and the option to create a new character. Then and only then are you given the choice of which server to make the character on.

From what I understand, unless they put the game back to the way it was, the client is now set up to only support eight characters across all severs. This also explains why the station launcher only kept a single list of eight characters and listed what server they were on, rather than a list of characters per server. (check your Vanguard installation folder for a file called (yourname)_characters.ini) - this implies its been intended to be this way for a while.

I do not see why they can't just limit how many characters you have per server. They did it with EQLive. Blizzard did it with WoW. It's just greed really if it's total (and if they charge for extra slots), and not per server. As for how many characters people can play at once, that's down to each individual to decide. It's not game breaking to have a limit per server instead, and to allow peeople the option of having as many or as few characters as they wish.

I don't see it as greed. Their reasoning is to keep the newbie area populations under control. This is totally understandable. I'm a happy camper, as I'm used to only 6 characters per account in EQ2.

2 more for me to play with!

Even so, if they charge for extra slots then to me it's greed. The newbie area populations will self-regulate over time anyway.

At one point on EQ I had three active accounts with all 8 character slots filled for the same server, all between lvl 5 and 60/65/70. They were there for various reasons, housing spells and items prior to guild vaults, for crafting resources when you only had 8 bank slots.

I feel 8 total is a little on the mean side, I'd be happier with 6/8 per server, but I'd also be happier with 2 per server than 8 total, especially when I have friends from previous guild who I can pretty much guarantee will not be playing all on the same server in VG.
