Me and my best friend started playing EQ2 together, And took the same names as we Roleplayed, We started a guild called the Aurvion Family and such. It was alot of fun, So i will probably have that name.

I personally like UO's way of doing things...based on your action and fame/karma you automatically get a 'status' name before your name. Such as "Unsavory, Scoundrel, Honorable" etc.

Yes, yes and yes.

Oddly enough, though we've been playing together for years (hell, we met playing AC), hubs and I have never shared a last name in an MMO. I tell people I'm already married to him in RL, what for do I need to RP it? But the plain fact is, we usually forget or want different names. When he got into beta recently, however, we did make a pair with the same last name. I suppose I can be talked into doing it again when we go live. /grin

Usually though I pick something that "sounds right for the character" - it's a very technical process that requires a lot of careful thought. (Bah, phpBB forums need strikeout! Think of the humorous potential!)

They are Reputation titles.

You dont give yourself the title. It's automatically given to you by your actions...good deeds, or bad.

Back in the day it was quite a feat to get to Dread Lord...but it was worth it. You didn't have to say anything, the name spoke for itself. Yes, I'm evil, I do lots of terrible things, dont mess with me. lol

If you ask me this game would be perfect for a reputation title set up like that. Atleast on PvP servers.

Ill be picking a name that means a lot to me. My very first MUD, my name was Kinja, I was a vampire on Realms of Dispair lol. Anyway, the newbie Imm, Brittany, was Canadian, an awesome lady, and she MUD adopted me, this was when I was like 9-10. Her last name in the game was a mix of her own chosen last name as well as that of her husbands (irl) who she (I believe) had met through the game. So it was Seccunda-Dethblayde. However, whenever I am not allowed to hyphenate a surname, or that surname is too long, I always choose Seccuna for any healer/caster, and Dethblayde for any melee.

To get back to the original question, I have been using a common last name for all my characters (varies per game sometimes). I treat them as a loosely connected clan (by affiliation, not by blood) since they tend to cooperate in crafting and loot sharing.

My back stories tend to connect them as siblings, cousins, and family acquaintances.
