Flying 101

Tested Griffons today. There cool. 230% movment speed. Land and air. Tho with a distance of maybe 25 feet from the ground it seems your moving slower.

To fly you need to look slightly up and be moving forward. Either with the mouse look or page up or what ever you set it to in the options. Now you have to double jump to get your mount airborn. Default is space bar so you just tap it twice.

Turning/moving forward in the air is rather easy. Its same as ground movment. To climb and descend you look up or down. (pretty much like swimming)

They made summoning the griffons alot faster than normal mounts. This helps in case you lose mount while zonning. It's best to make a hotkey you can hit real quick if you find yourself falling. Also once you resomon your mount you must double tap the spacebar again or your mount will continue to fall. I didnt have a problem with this as I had a feather fall song up the whole time. Well I did try to land on top of a tower. But that emediatly despawned my mount and threw me into the ground. I have safe fall and I have jumped off the same tower with miminal damage before so this might be some sort of bug.

You can not summon a mount while in the water. You can summon a boat though.

Griffons can hover in one place.

While moving along the ground and then running off the edge of something you can hit Jump once to glide. You can not climb unless you hit jump again. Having feather fall on seems to make your glide much longer.

Flying onto the top of certain buildings that do not alow mounts will despawn your mount. ( I think thats what happend in the tower I mentioned above.)

Horeshoes and bridles did not seem to effect flying mount speed.

You can not give anyone else a ride.

Each chunk seems to have a 1k cieling as well. makes me wonder on future expansions. having to climb a beanstalk into the clouds or something.

The griffons were very agile as well.

Most players seemed really disapointed when they had to dismount and move at 100% movment rate again. It seemed realy slow after having the flying mount.

Didnt really bother me, cause as a bard my current speed is a little over 190%.

Can't wait to get a flying mount in beta tho.

Handy to know, nice speed at 230%, so it seems that its quite easy to get the hang of then? Also any idea where you get flying mounts? Or is it just quest rewards?

I also noticed that if you fly too lowly over creatures on the ground, you will be attacked and your griffon will despawn. Had this happen with my level 1 shaman character I got a griffon with. A rather large sharpbeak in Kojan jumped up and bit me, I feel and died.

You can also get attacked in the air by flying agro creatures. So beware!

For got about that. And yes it seems the z axis on mob agro needs ajusting. They can also hit you when your pretty high. Thats one reason Sigil asked for level 1 to 5 pc's so as not to have anyone lose there stuff or XP.

The taking off by double jumping seemed to be the only roadbloack on the learning curve.

I did crash to desk top once when chunking, lost mount on a nother. (this casued no problems as I had feather fall on and a hotkey for the mount. Again remember to jump twice after summoning to actually fly.)

Oh and were not sure on how to get the flying mounts. It has been mentioned as a high level quest reward.

A few lucky people already have one as a reward in the live game. The first person to find a specifice NPC in each nobbie area recieved a Permanent mount in game. Nice touch there. Each starting area had like 300 toons in it. And suprisingly I didnt have much trouble. Yes the world server crashed once. And besides a little bit of stuttering Everything worked well.
