Factions and Consequences
Just wondering how the faction system will work in this game, if its going to be based on eq or eq2 of both, or not? Aside from that does attacking merchants = instant death, like in EQ if you attacked certain NPC Merchants they went loco on you and were dbling for 158 over and over and had a ton of hp.

Re: Factions and Consequences
I am wondering why you talk about the faction system and attacking NPC merchants, when the poll is about buffs? In answer to your question though, I have not heard anything about how faction is going to work. Also, I do not think it will be the same system we saw in EQ or EQ2.
As to the poll, Just keep the buffs comin. I am going to be a tank and will need the extra support. |

Re: Factions and Consequences
Hehe that is a fairly odd poll to have on this thread.
![]() Most I've heard about faction in the game is that it will be tightly tied to the diplomacy sphere. I think the current trend in MMO's is to just make merchants unattackable which works for me.

Re: Factions and Consequences
Well i posted the poll different because i was curious on buff duration, however i was also curious about factions and consequences so i attempted to hit 2 questions with one post. The reason i ask about attacking merchants is because some merchants drop whatever they are selling in certain MMO's now ofcourse not everyone sets the game that way, as to prevent the get rich fast scheme or stay rich if your powerfull scheme.

Re: Factions and Consequences
The guards and their godly strength is required in games where faction is in play, I always resented for the longest time how city guards could own me pre 60. When you have a faction system in play the only people you really could honestly rely on to enforce it would be your city guards, think of real life non compton stores, if you went into a shopkeeper's place of business and you weren't alligned with his faction they wouldn't dust you theirselves they'd call the city guard who would most likely mobilize in posse formation and pull out their jammy's and flat blast you :P, So I like strong guards in faction based game. I hope merchants are too strong like they were in EQ I want them to run and get the city guard on you like Oblivion that'd be tight. I also want them to be normal strength so I can be hired as a rogue assassin to off shopkeeps who aren't paying for protection or just a casual hit paid by the competition :P
There should be global factions and local factions to me that would be so perfect, your diplomats could be like modern day diplo/politicians. I'd also like to see towns where players could be elected mayors by other players that would add a nice extra touch to the game, where you had to be a citizen in that town to be able to cast your vote on who was the next mayor. As mayor you would have boosted diplomacy with other towns, which in turn boosted faction when dealing with those other towns that you were closely alligned to which funneled down to your denizens of your town so that they could profit from this faction boost as well being citizens of your town which meant lower prices, and safe passing thru the towns. |
