Re: so, the worl isn't small after all!

Each little square is the equivalent of 2.5 miles. If my calculations (which they are probably not) are correct, that makes approx. 280 miles in the map pictured above.

Re: so, the worl isn't small after all!

When you add in that all that is real play area. You can pack a lot of content into a 2.5 mile square. It seems that Telon is bigger than Horizons continent, there, after 6 months (while there was a big active population) 80% of the land mass had never been visited by any player.

Very interesting topic. Thanks for the info. Even if wrong, the map does indicate a certain size. I'm satisfied from what I know so far.

Re: so, the worl isn't small after all!

I wonder if Qualian Customs will be implemented and will you find Kojanese working in sweat shops in Khal off the main marketplace street, will there be a Qualian equivalent to INS who will deport anyone who have bad relations with the humans of the continent, same goes for every other continent.

With lands this huge and different it will be interesting to see how the humans interact with each other. I remember in EQ humans from Qeynos were looked upon pretty much the same as humans from Freeport in Qeynos, and vice-versa which I always found odd. In a land like this faction should play a significant role.

I haven't read much on travel really but it seems that new players might have "some" difficulty reaching their friends who chose to play characters that start on other continents, which I find to be pretty cool. With that it should stop this game from becoming like EQ after the implementation of the plane of knowledge and it's infamous books.

I remember there was talk about regional currencies and since diplomates will be dealing with regional authorities "whispering in the ears of kings" the continents should be more than just alternative play areas.

Re: so, the worl isn't small after all!

Well horse travel will be the norm. Once you do meet up with your buddies you can imploy the caravan system. How well that works I have no clue.

Shayalyn of Ten Ton Hammer reports from Sigils Media day Preview.
Quote:
We got a peek at the map that helps players navigate their way around Telon. Light colored trails on the ocean areas indicate travel corridors on which adventurers can sail their ships from continent to continent. There will also be teleporters to transport ships from one continent to another. “Otherwise it would literally take you an hour on a ship to get from Qalia to Kojan,” said McQuaid.

Mounts and Flying Mounts
Since there’s limited instant travel in Telon, and travel is designed to be a meaningful part of the adventure, mounts are integral to gameplay in Vanguard. The first horses are available to players at around level 10. As players progress, they’re able to obtain mounts that are faster and more powerful, ending with the impressive wurm (a flying dragon). As we watched, Jeff Butler buzzed a level 5-10 newbie area in Qalia, which sent beta players scattering, although a few recognized the dragon and cheered.

You’ll have to work hard to obtain a dragon, though. We were told that he was a very high level mount, and players wouldn’t be able to take the reins until somewhere around level 40-45 plus.

At this time, just like ship-to-ship combat, there’s no mounted combat in the game. While you can be attacked on horseback and knocked off your mount, or even shot down off your flying mount, you won’t actually be fighting from the saddle. Once again, mounted combat is the stuff expansions are made of. You can, however, equip your horse with armor to make it faster or help prevent knock-down.

Travel
Speaking of flying mounts, because it was the most efficient way to show us the game world, nearly the entire demo took place while flying on one. Naturally, that sparked some good information on them and their place in the game. Watching the gameplay, it was inevitable that people would start asking questions. We learned that it was likely that the flying mounts would probably not have unlimited stamina, which means that they would only be able to fly for a certain distance before becoming "tired" and having to rest. Flight is also not a "free pass" for travel. There are NPCs and monsters that fly, who can and probably will attack you, possibly knocking you from your seat which can be pretty dangerous from any height (Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, characters take falling damage as well).

I hope you meant only Kojani races except Orcs, when you mentioned the sweatshops.(Some Orcs might be slaves, but would be rare)

Orcs are known to be slave drivers. I can easily see Qalian and Thestrian races go and visit the ports when the Orcs come around in their ships for the slave market to buy human cargo from all over Telon.(Execpt Orcs of course)
