I can understand that stance Grey. But if you think about it Sigils damned regardless of the way they go about beta selection. If they go on post count, we get 50k kiddies spamming the boards to get their counts up. If they go by registration date then we miss out on some very good testers who just now are hearing about the game so are probably pretty active vs alot of the old timers who have faded away over time. Its a thankless job really.

As for not being impressed with sites like ours who are giving the slot away to people with a single post I have to protest. Our referal contest was in full swing days before we got the nod to give away a beta slot. Running two contests didnt seem like a good idea and not giving away the slot this month seemed like a crime. We have already started working on next months contest which will be much different than this months but even still I think building the community up with this current contest is a good thing.

As for telling us you intend to participate in a fashion which is against the rules, that seems a little odd as well. Im sure there is at least one person you know who can be a valid referral. I hope you'll reconsider. Thanks.

Goodness I never said that I would cheat I pointed out how the system was open to abuse!! If my record of support for Vanguard does not get me into Beta then I won't get in. I simply will not jump through hoops like some circus performer in order to do it. Beta I thought was to extend your support in producing a good solid product from forum into testing not a freebee chance to play a new game.

Thats truly a relief to be honest! I'm glad I misunderstood where you were coming from. The method is open to abuse I agree. In fact Im going to have to spend several hours to go back through by hand and check a number of different variables to make sure our winners didnt cheat. I think beta is definitely partially to extend support and partially to build the community before launch. The current beta slot initiative seems to be more the latter than the former in my eyes. Hang in there!

I don't see how you can't like this program, Grey. This has nothing to do with Sigil's official selections, and everything to do with community. I love it. It's been entertaining watching the new programs show up and watching the posters try to win the spot. I like the way they left it up to the affiliates to decide how to give it away (and Silky really came up with a great contest - though I like the one you have here - it's been forever a great site without enough members) rather than dictating it (You must give the accounts to people with only 3 letters in their name. No more and no less).

Guess I still remember Sigils statement that they would invite those that have supported them over the years. If they had explained that it would be a lottery from day one I would not have cared. I guess I judge people by my own standards and get disappointed when they dont live up to them. Not criticizing affiliates I am sure folks will have fun playing for places. Sorry if I came over but still a bit jetlagged from my US visit.

Well, if by lottery, you are talking about the magazine fiasco, I couldn't agree more. The affiliate beta accounts could be viewed as a bonus, though.
