FoH - Brad - Gold Selling

We all know FoH is a huge guild. They are pretty well know as the cutting edge raiding guild. Like them or not there here to stay and Brad is apart of them. Brad is a "Honor" Member of the guild. I went to there website, like I do about once a month. First thing I saw that was new was this UBERGUILDS.ORG logo. Well it seems that FoH is apart of that network. Right below it was Ads by Goooooogle. SELLING GOLD. Hmm... Now we all know what the Vanguard stance on selling gold is. We also know that brad keeps up with FoH. So do you think any thing will happen over this? Will he drop his membership or ask that the ads be removed.

Re: FoH - Brad - Gold Selling

Will be interesting. However Brad and other members of Sigil are members not the owners of the site and therefor has no control. Guess it depends on the attitude of FOH members and how important Brad feel their approval of his game is. If FOH ever became an affiliated site then there would be a big backlash but I think it will be impossible for Sigil to avoid all websites and magazines linked to Gold selling

Re: FoH - Brad - Gold Selling

Requiem, the admin and I believe owner of the FoH website actually created the Uberguilds network as a business venture if Im not mistaken. Part of that business venture probably includes advertising as a means to harness the massive amount of traffic the FoH site and Uberguilds network receives.

Google Adwords is a good advertising method but unfortunately is so dynamic its incredibly difficult to block all new gold ads that popup in it daily from being distributed to a site even if the admin wants to. One of the other affiliates actually had that problem about a year ago. Each morning they would have to block a couple new gold ads but in the meantime they popped up on their site and people complained.

Now Im not saying this is the same, Requiem may not care but then again he may be doing his best to block the ads and cant afford to remove the google ads entirely without risking his cash flow which keeps the sites afloat.

FoH is actually pretty small. Core group of players that shift from game to game.

As for the gold adds, I never really noticed but I want to ask now. This is awesome and I am curious as to what Mr. McQuaid thinks. I know the FoH doesn't condone Gold Farming. Look at the threads on the subject.

I'd rather use the rule, "If you don't agree with their politics, stay away!"

Then again, there's the one that says, "Keep your friends nearby and your enemies closer!"

I don't care for what FoH condones on their site in regards to the way things are allowed to go, so it's better that I just stay away. There's nothing you can say or do as a "goodie two shoes" that would spark anything but a war on morals and ethics, if ya wanna put it that way. (and for lack of coming up with better words. "Innocence" came to mind...)

Not sure where I implied otherwise, just commented on how much traffic their site receives in the post you quoted.

Re: FoH - Brad - Gold Selling

I noticed that ad also, I dont believe its possible to stop gold farming but only to limit it. Hmm Uber guilds they have thier advantages but rather would join a more casual guild. I like raiding but there is alot more to RPG than end game and raiding. At least for the Type of char I would play.

He should be doing his best to block them out. As an Affiliated site shouldn't they HAVE to block this out?

I understand the revenue portion and that it's hard to block everthing new coming in but if it's that big a problem then use a diferent revenue plan. Then Again I despise Gold buying companies. There parasites. As are Gold farmers. Ruins a great game.

With new technology there should be a way to block known farmers. And if that dosnt work go after the buyers. If your ill gotten plat suddenly disapears from your account and any items purchased with that plat is similarly taken and in its place is a note that when oppend clearrly states the ELUA pertaining to third partie purchases. This would reduce the demand for gold purchases thus making it not profitable to buy gold from the sellers in the first place. Tracking large movements of coin ingame shouldn't be too much of a problem.

But thats just my take on it.

FoH isnt an affiliate site. They just get attention from Sigil because they are a high traffic MMO site.
