Depends what that naked character is doing. If they are just standing there they arent in any sphere. If they are trying to kill a mob they are in the adventuring sphere and if they are trying to build a hinge they are in the crafting sphere. Basically the way I think its best to think about it is the skills you are utilizing decide what sphere you are in and what stats will be referenced to determine any bonuses or negatives your gear will give you. The way I read it you can craft in your adventuring armor all day but you wont be nearly as effective as if you changed clothes.

Thats what I was thinking about earlier - Piro did a great job of saying what i meant.

I remember a dev post in a earlier life - more than a month ago saying that you could hit a creature with your pick, the same pick u are useing to harvest some sort of ore, but that same pick would not do as much damage as the sword you have in your backpack. You need to take the time and switch weapons / armor / whatever / to use the best item for whatever action you are trying to do at that moment.

So you hit a mob you get to improve your adventurer, hit a stone you improve your crafter side, you converse you improve your diplomacy. That the experience gained from each activity allows you to level in that sphere is ok, I have no problem with that, my problem lies with my characters stats. They should not change between activities. Allocation of Stat points should impact on all my skills and abilities. In fact there is no real need to alter stats when swapping spheres at all as jewelry, gear, tools and weapon bonuses could do the same job. for example hammer of strength + 2, ring of agility+1 and so on. simply swapping gear reorganises your stats. Of course that might be implied in coinspinners quote. If so it is only a tiny step from spheres to abilities.

edit: meant spheres to skills.

We can only hope that the labels they use for the various stats in the separate spheres are not the traditional labels that we are all used to then. Maybe instead of strength they could use something like brute force, and instead of dexterity/agility they could use intricate force.

Possiblility??

I.E. I used my brute force stat to pound the raw ore into the metal bars i needed.
